JOINT RESERVOIR UP TO COUNCILS Whether the plan broached a few months ago of a joint reservoir for Anaheim, Santa Ana and other Orange County cities will be settled on is entirely up to the city councils concerned. But— In Anaheim's case at least, the present water supply system constitutes a serious danger in case of fire, and the city must face the problem of an adequate supply. This is the answer of Acting City Manager Clyde Butler to the question of a big joint county-wide reservoir. Continuing, Butler declared that if a fire of any consequence broke out here, the supply of water in the municipal tank wouldn't last 30 minutes. Furthermore, the number of factors, such as possible lack of current, machinery getting out of order, etc., anode even the existing water supply precarious, said Butler. The reservoir plan was first discussed by Anaheim, Santa Ana and Orange, in connection with the joint sewer project. A separate committee had charge of the project, consisting of former City Manager O. E. Steward and former Mayor William Stork, of Anaheim, Col. S. H. Pinley, of Santa Ana, supervisor there, City Councilman Charles Chapman of Santa Ana, and former Mayor O. E. Gunther of Orange Stark, Steward and Gunther are all out, but their defeat had nothing to do with their share in the reservoir plan, and their places are expected to be filled at another joint meeting of the city councils to be held shortly, according to City Engineer W. G. Knox, of Santa Ana. The Anaheim and Santa Ana councils met a week ago last Friday in joint session, but nothing was done relating to the reservoir matter. G. O. P. WAR IN HOUSE LOOMS AS GILLETT SEEKS SENATE SEAT WHERE WILL 5th WELL BE SUNNY Anahiem's new bond leagues $110,000 for a new well, two pipe and fire hydrants have been advertised for sale and use; the bonds are sold and the man received the improvements he has to wait. Clydo Butler, city manager declared today. The location of the addition well, quantity of pipe and drills, the streets to be paved first now that the laying of roads is in sight, are all up to council, said Butler. He does not favor disclosing additional well at the present sitealtho he didn't consult himself on the site near the Santa Ana river which has been mentioned, admitted that there would be considerable inconvenience in having the well separate from the other. As already announced, Anahiem's water consumption recently broke all records for a single 24 hours. The level in the water has been proceeding year by year and the two abnormally dry years of 1922-23 and 1923-24 have brought the level to a point where it cannot be brought back to where it was after the hot rains of 1921-22. 2 DEAD TOLL OF ENOCH ARDEN CAKE LOS ANGELES, May 22.—Wife of the death late last night of Hieco, who ran amuck in B. Grace ave., yesterday, shooting and burying his former wife, Mrs. Will Milligan, and seriously wounded her husband of a few days, the son of the tragic affair today stood two dead. Milligan, "the man who came back from the grave" after being reported killed in action during the world war, will live, poised surgeons said today. Behind the scenes of the act tragedy was a remarkable Enoch Arden romance of the late w DROUGHT IN MANILA MANILA, May 22—Manila is the center of a district suffering the worst drought in 13 years. The water supply is but one-fourth of normal. Religious processions are seen daily in surrounding provinces entreating rain. The UNION PACIFIC announces a permanent reduction in local passenger fares between California, Nevada and Utah points on its lines west of and including Salt Lake City. The NEW RATE FROM LOS ANGELES TO SALF LAKE CITY is $28.05 instead of $41.39 as formerly. Henry Allen Cooper (above) and Frederick Gillett. The announced intention of Frederick Gillett, speaker of the house, to enter the Massachusetts senatorial race may result in a bitter internal Republican fight in the next congress unless the Democrats win a clear majority in November. It is the custom to give the speakership to the member of the dominant party who has had the longest term of service in the house, and the retirement of Gillett would put Henry Allen Cooper, Insurgent Wisconsin LaFollette Republican in line for the position. Nielolas Longworth would be more satisfactory to the old guard. TWO INNOCENT MEN PARDONED SHORTLY LOS ANGELES, May 22—Freedom within a few days awaits Jose Hernandez and Brullo Gallindo serving terms in prison for the holdup of the Arcadia bank, now said to be innocent, following the confession of the late Hubert Kittle, according to District Attorney Asa Keyes, it was revealed today. Pardons for the two men are said to have been approved by the state supreme court and their release is expected within a short time. According to the police and deputy sheriffs, the man's clothing closely answered the description of that of one of the bandits who figured in the holdup.
