KING GEORGE OPENS THE BRITISH EMPIRE EXPOSITION
The royal carriage, carrying King George V, Queen Mary, the Prince of Wales and the Duke of York, entering the Wembley exposition grounds.
Great Britain is busy advertising the empire on which the sun never sets to the English people. The advertising is taking the form of a huge fair, known as the British Empire Exposition, being held at Wembley, near London.
Every one of the British dominions is represented with exhibits. The whole thing is intended as a liberal education in the value and possibilities of English-ruled lands.
The exposition was formally opened by the king himself, attended by Queen Mary, the Prince of Wales and the Duke of York. Their visit was made the occasion of a huge demonstration of esteem for the sovereigns by great throngs.

HEIR TO MILLIONS NOW A WANDERER,
BANISHED BY COURT FROM HIS HOME
J. T. Milliken, Jr., and the home he cannot go to.
Too much money. That's the cause of all the troubles of J. T. Milliken, Jr., heir to millions. He now is a wanderer because a St. Louis court, wearied by censure escapades that began when he was 14 years old, banished him from the state of Missouri. His father, gold mine and oil magnate, left an irrevocable will which bars him from his inheritance until he reforms. The banishment by the court followed a shooting scrape.

Mathilde McCormick Oser and her husband, Max.
Will John D. Rockefeller send congratulations to the mother of his great grandchild? Society is wondering. Mathilde McCormick Oser, whose marriage to Max Oser, Swiss riding master, John D. thought ill-advised, is the mother of a daughter, born in Paris. Neither of Mathilde's parents, Harold P. McCormick, harvester king, and his divorced wife, Edith Rockefeller McCormick, were present at the birth, both being in this country. Mathilde, then 18, married the middle-aged riding-master a year ago, after precipitating a war in her family by announcing that she intended to do so.
The report made by Admiral Robert E. Coontz, commander-in-chief of the United States fleet, to congress disclosing the startling deficiency of the navy is expected to precipitate a preparedness fight in both houses of congress. Huge increase in appropriations is considered necessary to bring the navy up to conformity with the 5-5-3 ratio fixed by the disarmament conference.

Blair Coen.
Geertrude Gladys Hunter.
In November, 1922, Geertrude Gladys Hunter, young and gifted and starry-eyed, brought suit for $200,000 against Paul E. Heller, millionaire Newark, N.J., manufacturer, whom she charged with breach of promise. A substantial amount was put to her credit in a bank when the suit was settled out of court, but now she refuses to make use of the money. "For all I care, it can stay in the bank. I cannot bring myself to touch it."
