INDIANA GOVERNOR GIVEN 10 YEARS
INDIANAPOLIS, April 30.—Warren T. McCray was sentenced to serve ten years in the Atlanta federal prison and fined $10,000 by Judge Albert B. Anderson today.
A few minutes before he had ceased to be governor of Indiana, his resignation becoming effective at 10 o'clock.
Sentence was passed at 10:17 o'clock on his conviction on a charge of using the mails to promote a scheme to defraud.
As he let down the reins of government they were taken up by Emnett P. Branch of Martinsville, who was sworn-in by Chief Justice Eubanks of the state supreme court.
The sentence brot to a close one of the most tragic and dramatic stories in the history of Indiana.
McCray, a prominent farmer and internationally known livestock man, elected to the highest position the people of Indiana may bestow—spent the last two nights in the federal row or "bull pen" of the Marion-co jail along with convicted bootleggers and common criminals.
There will be no appeal from the decision of the jury and Judge McCray's counsel said.
McCray, in company with Linus P. Meredith, United States marshal for Indiana, left for Atlanta this afternoon. No change of expression marked McCray's face as Judge Anderson pronounced the sentence which was more severe than generally expected.
In passing sentence, Judge Anderson said: "If I should attempt to mete out punishment in comparison to the crime, I could not overdo it. Within the three years he was governor he violated the law innumerable times. I must sentence him to 10 years in the Atlanta federal pententiary and fine him $10,000."
The judge explained that he would sentence the defendant to five years on each of the 13 counts in the indictment but that the prisoner would be freed when 10 years of his sentence had been served and his fine would be $1,000 on each count, but that he would have to pay only $10,000.
Dawes Commission is Dissolved Today
WASHINGTON, April 30.—The Dawes commission, whose work in Europe in untangling the German reparations problem will probably become historic, was informally dissolved today upon the White House door step.
"We'll we're thru," said Gen. Chas. G. Dawes as he emerged from the president's office with Owen D. Young of New York, and Henry M. Robinson of Los Angeles.
They shook hands and said they were going to their respective homes for "a good long rest."

The appointments were: The committee to organize German railways—Sir William Acworth and M. Leverve.
Committee to supervise German banking—Sir Robert Kindersley.
Committee to regulate German industrial obligations: — Alfred Descamps and Sir Alberto Perelli.

CLASH LOOMS ON IRISH BOUNDARY
BELFAST, April 30—Possibility of a clash between Ulster and the Irish Free State over the boundary dispute loomed here today, with cool heads believe that actual warfare will be averted.
Members of the provincial government said Ulster was determined to bore the London government's proposal for a boundary commission to settle the quarrel.
"The north (Ulster) will not make any further sacrifices even in the interests of peace," said Minister of Labor Andrews. "We fear that the Free State deliberately sought to widen the breach."
The Free State claims a portion of Ulster's territory on the ground that the residents are adherents of the Free State government.

MAKE PROGRESS ON McNARY BILL
A telegram was received by Francis Cuttle from Mayor S. C.
Evana, who is now in Washington,
to the effect that "Senator McNary will accept amendments and Shortridge will attend to same."
This message refers to Senate Bill No. 1182 by Senator McNary,
which has for its purpose the protection of forest lands for the reforestation of denuded areas, for
the extension of national forests,
and for other purposes, in order to promote the continuous production of timber on lands chiefly suitable.
The amendments referred to were prepared by Francis Cuttle enlarging the provisions of the bill so as to provide for the prevention of fires on watersheds from which water is secured for domestic use and irrigation. This means that in the event the McNary bill becomes a law that the federal government will protect the growth, whether it be timber, brush or grass, on our watersheds from which water is secured for domestic purposes and irrigation.
The McNary bill as amended has been presented to many local organizations in the last two months and most of these have adopted resolutions requesting our senators to use their best endeavors to have the bill amended as above outlined and to use their influence to secure its enactment into law. From Mayor Evana' telegram it is apparent that good progress is being made.
