JAIL DENVER, April 25.—Investigation was under way today by city and county authorities to place responsibility for a wholesale jail delivery from the Denver county jail last night that resulted in the escape of 15 prisoners, many of them considered "desperate characters." OUT WEST CANADA ALBERTA—The second largest forest in the western hemisphere is said to be in this province. Late estimates have Alberta over 60,000 square miles of standing virgin timber. CALFORNIA SACRAMENTO—It is said here by the expert in charge of the bureau of fisheries that gunfire from battleships does not frighten fish away from the neighborhood of maneuvers. On the most crowded roads, such as the Mercy river, Liverpool, the amount of fish taken is as great as off the Glenns of Antrim, where the shipping is nil. This should come as grateful information to the fishermen of So. Calif., who have expressed some worry over the presence of the fleet and the proposed force practice. KANSAS TOPEKA—It is alleged that the K.K.K. is doing business illegally in this state, as it has not taken out a license to operate. The fact that the Klan has been intimidating and hazing was said to be unproven and not admissable as evidence. NEW TODAY YOUNG lady wishes to do housework. Inquire 413 W. Elm-st. WASHINGTON ABERDEEN—It is reported that two men have been dynamiting fish in the rivers hereabouts. This is a penal offence. OLMPIA—George Schappy has stolen government traps and a warrant has been issued for his arrest, at which he will not be so happy it is said. It is hoped that he will come to jail peaceably as he weighs over 300 pounds and has the disposition of a goat when arroused. The accused is an Indian. UTAH SALT LAKE—Dr. A. J. Webb, state veterinarian, says that the hoof and mouth disease was brought up from a purely local and sporadic disease to the tremendous epidemic it now entails. He made known that hundreds of tramps, attracted by California's ideal climate, move up and down the state every month, and sleeping out under the stars, come in contact with infected cattle. One man could scatter the germs to a hundred other cattle, it is said, and that is why such rigid restrictions must be placed on all activities. OKLAHOMA SHAWNEE—The strong tornado that demolished much of the town last month brought a semblance of cheer in its wake with the building of new homes and business houses. The shining roofs and gleaming paint are bringing a semblance of order out of the disaster that some that would brand Shawnee for a year to come. Kind friends and well wishers have not neglected to send donations to the building funds. William Wrigley, the chewing gum king, sent $300,000 from Chicago, but it was no more thankfully received than was the $2 sent by a little girl in Maud. DENVER, April 25.—The entire Rocky Mountain region was covered with a blanket of snow today, one of the heaviest and wettest precipitations ever experienced at this time of year. In Denver more than six inches had fallen and was continuing this morning. The storm was accompanied by a severe drop in BUENA PARK, April 25. (Spl.)
