Miscellaneous CONGRESS FACES JAPAN CHALLENGE WASHINGTON, April 12—Congress today accepted Japan's challenge over the Japanese exclusion amendment to the immigration bill, pending both in the senate and in the house. In face of the vigorous protest of Japanese ambassador Hainihara to Secretary of State Hughes, a poll of both houses indicated the exclusion amendment would be enacted by a substantial margin. The lower chamber was expected to pass the bill late today, but delay was promised in the senate because of the intention of several senators to assail the Hughes-Hainihara diplomatic correspondence. Not in years has the senate been so stirred up as over the Hainihara letter, which was regarded in virtually all quarters as "an outstanding document." Crucible lost % to 52% and U. C. Stel % to 96%. Pacific Oil lost % to 50%, and Pan-American % to 47%. Industrials and equipments showed pronounced heaviness.
