WHAT SO. CALIF. NEEDS
BY GIL A. COWAN
Southern California needs greater flood control, as evidence the lessons learned during the late rains of the present season. The Los Angeles county board of supervisors, as well as other similar bodies in the southland, recognize this fact and they are laying plans to meet the situation.
Talking with one of the foremost editors of the metropolis he said: "Have the people get behind the flood control and conservation projects for they mean the salvation of this country."
Pondering over his statement one could not help but wonder if the general public really apprehends the gravity of the water problem. His mature opinion is to be recorded.
First of all, the water level in California from the San Joaquin valley south has been receding each year for the last decade, or longer. Increased demands for irrigation water has revealed to the ranchers that only through check dams in the mountains can the flow be increased.
There is sufficient rainfall, even in dry years. If every drop possible is conserved, but we have been a careless people, yes lavish in wasting natural resources. Also this great southwest has developed beyond man's most fanciful dreams.

SEEK FEDERAL HELP
PORTLAND, Orc., April 11.—Federal authorities will likely be appealed by the governors of Oregon, Washington and Idaho to appropriate funds for the fumigation of all automobiles and travelling equipment leaving California.
This was indicated here today at a conference of state, city and county health authorities to protect Oregon's livestock and dairy industry from possible intrusions of the dreaded hoof and mouth disease from California.
Like lots of guillible grown-ups, the baby will swallow anything.
Day by day you feel weary. Try my treatment and feel cheery. Dr. Neth (movel to) 110 N. Resh-st.
