DAILY GREETING TO OUR READERS
You may assuredly find perfect peace if you resolve to do that which your Lord has plainly required, content that He should indeed require no more of you than to do justice, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with Him—John Ruskin.
DALLIANCE IN CONGRESS IS IRRITATING
The propensity to talk and to daily seems to be growing upon Congress. For five hours, on Saturday, the Senate did nothing of any importance. It just talked. And it talked to no purpose. It discussed the inquisitions that are being made by committees into the Teapot Dome and other scandals. It did not touch upon the urgent need of relief for the people from the burdens of taxation. It did not take up the subject of relief for farmers, soldier bonus, immigration and other measures of importance which await action. It did nothing to hasten final adjournment.
This course on the part of Congress misrepresents the people. It is not at all representative of what the people want or what the people need. Unfortunately the people have nowhere to look except to Congress. They ask Congress for bread—using the scriptural figure of speech—and they get a stone. There is just cause for complaint on the part of the people. Their supposed representatives, by taking a course like this are misrepresentative. The people have no recourse except to make their disappointment and their resentment felt. It would be well for the people to mak Congress feel its sense of responsibility to the public. If petitions and demands went up from the people for Congress to act expeditiously on legislation and then adjourn, the effect would be salutary.
Let the Senate show as much zeal in relieving the taxpayers as it does in relieving certain men in official life of their respective reputations.
THE SENATE SHOW AS MUCH ZEAL IN RELIEVING THE TAXPERS AS IT DOES IN RELIEVING CERTAIN MEN IN OFFICIAL LIFE OF THEIR RESPECTIVE REPUTATIONS.
WEALTH OF U.S.A. HUGE AND GAINING FAST
Richest of all nations in the world—richer than any nation of ancient or modern times. Such is the distinction which has been achieved by the United States. The grand total of riches in this country is almost $321,000,000,000, according to figures published by the Federal Department of Commerce. This is an increase of more than 72 per cent in ten years. Which would indicate that the wealth of the United States doubles in about fifteen years. Should this ratio of increase be maintained, the volume of riches in this country will become gigantic beyond comprehension.
It is exceedingly gratifying to all true Americans to have such enormousness of riches produced in this country. It denotes not only resources of practically inexhaustible richness, but it indicates also ingenuity, resourcefulness, energy and pluck among the American people, prompting them to produce this fabulous wealth.
The future will exalt heroes and benefactors of peace.

The Son of the Living God
Read Mt. 16:5-20. Text 16:16.
Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
"The essence of the experience was the actual presence of the personality of Jesus communicating to the disciples his own victorious sense of appointment by God to world leadership in the great movement to establish a race of honest, friendly, powerful men on the earth. Jesus was still with them with unabated power and purpose, and this transformed their doubt and bitter disappointment into permanent enthusiasm."
MEDITATION: The disciples realized his divinity. They accepted this as fundamental and they committed their lives to him. The glory of the Christian religion is that through the years countless men and women, out of their own experience with Christ, have come to know him as the Son of the Living God and through him to have salvation.
PERSONAL QUESTION: Just what in my life do I interpret to be the presence of the living Christ?
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, we pray that we may see thy glory in Jesus Christ. Give up a keener consciousness of the presence of the spirit of Christ in our daily life.
CODE OF LIFE IN SWAZILAND—San Diego Union
The discouraging thing about endeavoring to live a righteous life, to cultivate one's intellect, to pay one's debts and in all other respects to believe as an honest and useful citizen, is the fact that so often are the capricious forces of coincidence and pure chance appear to be on the side of those who live without any effort at all. Solomon worked hard to amass his glory—only to be eclipsed, we are told, by the non-tolling, non-spinning lilies-of-the-valley.
Or, consider the case of His Excellency Saboza, the tar-tinted Pooh-bah of Swaziland, Africa. His Excellency went to London for a little soojurn, last year, and while in the British capital he lived happily in a more-than-Oriental luxury. When he went home he took with him a bale of unpaid bills against the principality of Swaziland.
The Swazis refused to honor the bills. They were annoyed at their monarch's protracted junket, and steadfastly declined to pay for it. The Pooh-bah—or Akhoond, or whatever Mr. Saboza is called—thereupon became annoyed at his subjects. He sulked—blackly.
Then a drought set in, and the Swazis' crops were soon in a bad way. Pooh-bah Saboza let it be rumored that the cause of this drought was his own royal displeasure. At the end of nine weary months, the Swazis capitulated, agreed to pay the disputed bills.
The next day it began to rain!
Now Mr. Saboza is planning another jaunt to London. And the wiser Swazils are probably wondering if it really pays to be honest.

A curious bird is a lady.
The right to contrariness hers.
When weather is torrid
And humid and horrid,
She covers herself up with furs.
But when the thermometer's lowest,
And sturdy men shiver and freeze,
Her neck, it is bare,
And she'll smilingly wear Thin stockings that don't reach the knees.
And refuses to talk.
She's in a blue funk for a week.
Immodesty is her aversion.
She hands it full many a welt.
But, down at the beach,
Her suit is a peach
And isn't much more than She loathes her congested ment,
She feels that she must get
She goes to the farm
With its bucolic charm,
But hurries back home the next day.

She says: "Let him yell. Ain't he cute?"
She gives her friend hurt and the silence,
