LAUREA AUDIENCE AND TEMPLE SUNDAY
A large audience assembled morning for the church service after a largely attended session the Sunday school. It was a surprise to all present that regardless of the inclementy of the weather one of the largest attendance in the history of the school was registered.
An effort is being made to secure a 100 per cent attendance at the school next Sunday which will mean over 1000 present. Even if this number should not be reached it is certain that there will be a new record established.
Dr. Geissinger baptized a number of babies and small children at the service and followed this beautiful ritual service with a short sermon appropriate to the occasion.
His text was Acts 16:15, where the story of Lydia's baptism was given together with that of her whole household. Dr. Geissinger said that an overwhelming majority of Christians practice infant baptism and that though there are some devout Christians who do not believe in it, the custom is several times referred to in the New Testament and has reason on its side.
He called attention to the fact that psychology ties with Christianity in emphasizing the importance of the child life and the need of careful and earliest possible nurture. He also said that the social sciences converge upon the need of the child's early coming to see that it must live with others. This, the church has long been saying and insisting that any civilization that is to endure must be built around love to God and man.
He went on to make clear that educators and publicists are saying today that you cannot order life in this present world as it should be without emphasizing the place of religion. Religion is the great rebuilding and steadying force human life of the world.
He pointed out how important is such a service as that of dedicating our children to the highest and most sacred purpose.
IDENTIFY BODY
LOS ANGELES, April 7—J.W. Purker, of San Pedro, told harbor police today he was certain the body he found at Venice two days ago, at first thought to be that of Lieut. Ervine Brown, missing navy paymaster, was that of Cleo Bush, ex-broncho buster, formerly of Twin Pallas, Idaho.
H.G. Wells, with no church connections, insists that our children should be brought to intimate knowledge of the ideals and truths of the New Testament. Surely we can all agree to that. And we need to be reminded that after all eroticisms are in, the fact remains that the church as it is today has the light and love of God playing thru it upon the life of the world and it is still the one great home of the soul!
There will be no service at the White Temple tonight, but tomorrow night, Tuesday night, the young people of the Epworth league will give a brief program, setting forth their ideas of Christianity and this will be followed by a short sermon by Dr. Geissinger. Dr. Geissinger emphasized yesterday that he hoped the people would feel free to ask any question concerning any personal difficulty connected with religion and that he would try to give answers to all such questions, which can be handed in personally or sent by mail.
OIL PROMOTER IN CHECK FRAUD CASE
Pat Sarsfield, ex-army officer, was scheduled to face law at a preliminary nearing on a charge of issuing a worthless check, at 2 p.m. today.
The complaining witness is R.W. Lantz, Santa Ana auto dealer, who alleges that Sarsfield gave him a bogus check for $20.
Trouble was with Daniel Mears, who alleged that Sarsfield embezzled $600 which Mears and Otto Kolberg, of Orange, had given him, they said, for securing options on oil land near Huntington Beach. Instead of securing the options, Sarsfield spent the money on himself, they alleged.
Sarsfield had no counsel. He
