FULL STORY OF "PASSION PLAY" The full story of the impressive "Passion Play of Oberammergau" as seen and studied by Rev. Dr. J. M. Wilkinson, of Toronto, Canada, will be given at the White Temple Sunday night at 7:30 o'clock. Wilkinson, twice an eye-witness of the great religious drama, stopped at the home of Anton Long, who acted the part of the "Christmas." Here he met Andreas, who took the part of "Peter," and John Zwinck who acted the difficult part of "Judas," and his daughter Otille, who represented the "Virgin Mary." Thus he was able to secure first-hand information of the leading actors and their parts in the wonderful production. Through the kindness of Jacob Ruth, leader of the great chorus, he became familiar with the details of the play; has a rare insight into the conditions and daily life of the people who take part, and in his descriptive lecture gives his own impressions of the "Sacrament" as the villagers prefer to call it. As no camera is allowed in the great theatre seating 6000 during its presentation, Dr. Wilkinson's 75 hand-painted slides were made from official negatives taken at rehearsals, and those who have seen them and witnessed the drama say that they are remarkable reproductions in color, poise and position of the scenes enacted on the great stage, as many as 1000 people appearing at one time. At the close of his lecture, Dr. Wilkinson shows what is said by its London makers to be "the only true likeness of Christ" as He really looked when he appeared among men. It was taken from a cat on an emerald by command of Tiberius Caesar and was deposited in the treasury of Constantinople. The public is invited to attend. SHALE OF GADDIE WELL SHOWS OIL A Plain Dealer subscriber today brought in a bottle in which a piece of shale from Gaddie Well No. 1 near Cypress had been dissolved in either. The shale, reduced to a powder, lay at the bottom of the bottle, while at the top was a brown discoloration, showing the presence of oil. This shale was taken out of the well recently, at around 2000 feet depth. As soon as a firm foundation is obtained a smaller casing will be put into the well, which is an open hole for 2000 feet. When the cement has dried operations will be resumed with a standard rig. 32 NEW OIL WELLS Oil field operations reported the week ending March 29, show 32 new wells started, compared with 29 previous week; 19 in Torrance, 2 in Long Beach, 1 in Huntington Beach, 1 in Whittier, 1 in Ventura-co., 7 in Kern-co., and 1 in Stantlansus-co. The total new wells this year is 387, compared with 416 at the same date last year. Tests for water shut-off 29, compared with 50 previous week. Yearly total to date 391; total to saem date last year 481. Deepening or redrifiting jobs 22, compared with 15 preceding week. Total to date this year 178; total to same date last year 191. Electric labor-saving appliances in American homes exceed in monetary value the sum spent in one year for face powder, cosmetics and perfumery. That is saying a good deal when it is realized that the latter figure runs to $750,000,000. There is a total of 20,600,000 home electrical appliances in use, valued at $782,-800,000. G. SANTA FE SPGS PRODUCTION A real surprise was hand operators of Santa Fe Springs past week when the daily of the field came up 2000 feet. Last week the production gated something over $5,000 this week the output went 400 barrels. The feature of the week developments at Santa Fe was the 750 barrel well owned by the Standard Oil Company. The producer was complete the Jordan property No. 4481. The Standard is the one of the many operators Springs to retire from the with good sized completion. Standard has not as yet closed development work as ever by the location of two new one on the W. L. Houghton party, the other on the Orteg. Associated Oil Company ing operations closed Springs this past week with completion of Southern No. 1 a 35 barrel well. Huntington Beach produces holding quite firmly at the barrels, the decline is very normal and the field is not ed to record any radical event for a number of months. The field is really holding up in prising manner. The hope of a northwest tension of the Huntington field is blasted with the out of the Down East Oil Conduct test well at a depth of 584. The hole simply did not show thing encouraging and that agement of the Down East Company felt they had no money enough on the project. The Union Oil Company land No. 3 at 3005 had a showing of oil and there were to be some possibilities of making good. The Standard Oil Company Bola 14 at 3945 feet is some nice oil showings and like the next well of impressio SID CHAPLIN TO STICK TO SCREEN Charles Chaplin temporarily forms the field of screen acting for the directorial chair, but his brother, Sidney, intends to keep the name of Chaplin before the public and so gives up the business end of the industry to return to acting. Of the first big roles that Sidney has appeared in since his return to the camera front is his humorous characterization in "Her Temporary Husband," a First National ribtickler, now playing at the California theatre. Sid has seen three sides of the motion picture industry, as an actor, director and as manager of the business interests of his more famous brother. But the lure of the camera lens has proved too great and Sid from now on is going to devote all his time to screen acting, he declares. In "Her Temporary Husband," which was directed by John McDermott, Sid enacts the role of a Jugubrious Cockney butler, a comedy character who seems to have the unhappy faculty of always doing the right thing at the wrong time. The remainder of the all-star cast includes Owen Moore, Sylvia Breamer, Tully Marshall, Chuck Reisner, Charles Gerrard, George Cooper and others. Huntington Beach production is holding quite firmly at 54,000 barrels, the decline is very gradual and the field is not expected to record any radical changes in a number of months. The old油 is really holding up in a surging manner. The hope of a northwestern expansion of the Huntington Beach oil is blasted with the quitting the Down East Oil Company's well at a depth of 5300 feet. The hole simply did not show anything encouraging and the management of the Down East Oil company felt they had spent money enough on the project. Development work at Ride out Heights, Whittier is now a feature of Southern California oil development. Ten wells are drilling, and new rigs are going up weekly. The Petroleum Midway Company is leading the drilling work with four wells drilling. The O'Donnell Oil and Refining Company has three wells going, the Standard Oil Company one, and the Taylor California Royalties are about to spud in, and the Montejo-Johnson Organization is rigging up. BAR CURB REAL ESTATE BROKERS The curbstone real estate sales man will be a thing of the past as soon as the new law passed by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors can be enforced. A resolution to this effect was adopted by the board of directors of the California Real Estate Assn. at their last meeting. This ordinance is aimed at the man who sells real estate from the roadside. Supervisor Woodley pointed out that many salemen for subdivisions in the county solicited for buyers along the highways scattering literature and generally being a source of danger to motorists. And now one objection to unconventionality in the matter of morals is that unconventionality has become too conventional.
