Friday, April 4, 1924 OLINDA OILMAN DIES OF INJURIES Leman Jones of Olinda, hurt some time ago while working for the Union Oil Co., died this morning in Los Angeles, following an operation. Angus McAulay, funeral director, brot the body to Fulleton where funeral arrangements are to be announced later. Surviving are widow, two children, mother and several brothers and sisters. A brother, Francis Jones, was killed four years ago in an auto accident at La Habra. RECOVER $10,000 LOS ANGELES, April 4.—After lying in wait all night, deputy sheriffs today rounded up five men and recovered loot valued at $10,000. The arrests were made in Home Gardens, near Huntington Park, and in Watts. The first man arrested was Fred Long. Later, William Jones alleged "brains" of the gang, was arrested. Meanwhile other officers at Watts had raided a house and took into custody P. M. Jones, George Brown and L. D. Killian, negroes. A sudden spurt of buying in U.S. Steel carrying that stock up to 100%, an advance of 1½ points, caused the whole market to turn firm. Other steels were strong. Bethlehem at 52%, Crucible at 57%. Republic at 40½ and Gulf States at 74% were up from 1 to 2 points. Oils were in good demand. Houston rising 1½ to 72½ and Producers & Refiners 1½ to 32%. Rails continued firm. Corn was ¼ to % off and cots % to % lower.
