SLIPPING FAST
Santa Fe Springs is still on the map an un oil field but its production is slipping fast. The field output for the week past totaled only 55,000 barrels. Production has been dropping for the past three months at the rate of 1000 barrels a day, and the decline can in no way be arrested.
The feature of the Springs field for the week was the recompletion of the Associated Oil Co.'s Jordan well at 4000 feet and the bringing of it back to production at 750 barrels. The Jordan well is a Bell sand re-completion and give operators a little line on what the Bell sand may still have in the way of production.
The General Petroleum Corp. is completing a Poy sand producer in its Santa Fe No. 17 at 3535 and the Petroleum Midway has spudged in and will complete a Poy sand producer on the Poy property at well No. 3.
The Standard Oil Co.'s contribution to the Santa Fe output was a 75 barrel well on the Santa Gerdes No. 7 property. The well was finished at 4650 and is doing gravity oil. The Standard's most side extension well W. L. Houghton 1 is standing at 5613 and there is some doubt on account of the condition of the hole and absence of showing as to the standard continuing with the feature of the old Hunt-Beach field is the amount work that is getting under-two of the largest operators field the Associated and third are leading off with the development and these two nies have four new wells.
The Down East Oil Co. made a masterly recovery from what looked like a very bad mechanical difficulty and drilling is going ahead again at 5260 feet. The Down Motor SUPPLANTS DOGS IN ARCTIC
The march of science into the frozen expanses of the Far North is bringing a new era of rapid communication across the wildernesses of snow. Mall planes equipped with landing skis, and swift, motorized sleds may soon replace the picturesque dog teams, just as the motor car is replacing the camels of the desert.
The United States postoffice department recently announced plans for airplane mail service from the terminus of the Government Railway at Nanana, Alaska, to Fairbanks. Thus a 20-day delivery service by dog team will be supplanted by a four-hour mail service.
A more dramatic transition, according to Popular Science Monthly for April, is that from dog-drawn sleds to sleds driven by motor. These already have made their appearance in Finland, a motorcycle engine furnishing the propulsion through a bicycle wheel. The contact of the rubber tire with the snow is said to create sufficient friction to drive the sled forward. The cheapness, lightness, and convenience of these vehicles make them, it is said, admirably suited for traveling over the snows.
TRAINING CLASS TO VISIT LIBRARY
The Fullerton Public and High School libraries will be visited next Tuesday afternoon by the training class of the Los Angeles Library school. The members of this class, which numbers about 30 students, are making a study of library methods in use in various institutions, and are scheduled to visit the libraries of Santa Ana and Fullerton for this purpose. They will be welcomed by the librarians in charge.
East is making a great effort to uncover a deep sand in the extreme northwest section of the field and open up a new district for Huntington Beach.

THO NOT ON TEAM
NEW HAVEN, Conn., March 27.—Though it is more than possible that not a Yale undergraduate will be on the American Olympic team next summer, the Yale Athletic Ass'n has undertaken to raise New Haven's quota of $5000 for the support of the team. The association itself has started the local subscription list by giving $500 in cash, and its lead will be followed by local sporting clubs and factory athletic associations, which are numerous here.
John T. Bossom, athletic director at Yale, himself an athlete note, is chairman of the local committee, which has headquarters at the Y-Club, an exclusive organization of men who have won letters in major sports at Yale.
