"Rawther In two hops there has been established a new conception in the modelling of men's suits for Spring. This style first manifested itself in London and on the Continent; New York adopted the style late last season and now in its second hop this fashion has landed fairly and firmly in what the East is pleased to call the "provinces," which takes in all the territory from the Hudson west to the Golden Gate. Hence, we have before us this season as the outstanding thing a type of suit variously known as an English model, Brooks model or Loose Sack Lounge Suit. This model lacks lines. It is rather in the careless drape of the coat them, but its popularity is decidedly on the wane now. Not all men will fake kindly to these English model suits—some because these models are discouraging to the man who is NEW JERSEY DEMS O. K. SILZER FOR THE PRESIDENCY keen for the nattiness andness that is inherent with body tracing lines. Other will look askance upon the cause it takes "a figure"; them successfully and not are so blessed in stature their own figure can sup grace which the model lucks. Hence Fashion is not arbitrary. More form-fitting fects are offered as a comp and these English styles no means, encompass a eclipse of the athletic suits. Then, too, there are the styles and in this day of country clubs and summer ing and outing occasion NEW JERSEY DEMS O. K. SILZER FOR THE PRESIDENCY George S. Silzer. Another name was added to the list of Democratic presidential possibilities when New Jersey endorsed a native son, Governor George S. Silzer, for the nomination. FURNITURE KEEPS STANDARD STYLE A set of furniture for the dining room consists, year after year, of approximately the same pieces. A buffet, a serving table, a silver chest, always appear, with the dinner table and chairs. Variation in silver chests, we find—low chests, and high chests—sometimes both to complete one dining set. Shall the high chest have a glass or wooden doors? Glass doors reveal china or silver on the shelves, wooden doors conceal—well, it's a matter of personal taste. Finishes do not vary from year to year, because there is a certain of taste that is always pleased and satisfied with beautifully finished walnut, the general favorite. Inlays, trim, carvings enrich this wood. Details—Chair coverings, nail heads, drawer pulls are subject to the greatest changes. One set uses heavy handsome old rose tassels for drawer pulls, another, pairs of small brass handles, quiet in design. An elaborate dining set may boast petit point, or velvet with fringe for upholstery on its chairs. But mohair with patterns on plain colors has proved durable and most satisfactory. More form-fitting effects are offered as a compromise and these English styles will, by means, encompass a totalclipse of the athletic style in suits. Then, too, there are the sport clothes and in this day of golfing, nutry clubs and summer dancers and outing occasions the short styles will well hold their肩. In those sport styles, however, there is a noticeable influence of the English trend which manifested by less of the nor-ork modelling than we have been accustomed to associating with sport clothes. Many men nowadays are wearing a severely cut lounge coat of black characteristics even with their knickers. This fashion finds many men in New York and in the larger centers like to play golf during the day, drop into sea" during the early afternoons evenings at the club and hotel faces and dance in the evenings without changing their garments. Four-Piece Suits Favored For such purposes the sack hat is a trifle dressier, and it is because of this tendency that the four-piece golf suits are gaining beautifully finished walnut, the general favorite. Inlays, trim, carvings enrich this wood. Details—Chair coverings, nail heads, drawer pulls are subject to the greatest changes. Nests of tables in lacquer finishes combine well and add a note of distinction to the room, pleasantly devoted to eating. Appropriate china adds—there are many fine points to be decided on the relative merits of Italian pottery, subtle Wedgewood, translucent Spode, or brillian lustre, and the use of each for a particular room. OPPOSE PROJECT FRESNO, March 24.—The California Irrigation Ass'n, in convention here, expressed its "unalterable opposition" to the Roosevelt-Sequoia National Park extension as hazardous to the Pine Flat water storage and power project. The association indorsed the Swing-Johnson bill, now before congress, which provides for the building of the Boulder Canyon Dam and the All-American Canal, declaring that "the unusual drought on the Pacific coast demonstrates the necessity of this construction now." Center St. Brimfull of Breeziness Spring hats to fit the fact rather than just the head, appear as the dominating styles in the new showings of men's headwear. The stylish hat this spring is the comfortable hat. It "alts" just right—looks even better than it feels. Above all, the contours provide a pleasing frame for the face. Shapes, in many instances similar to those of the fall season, occupy prominent positions in the newest trend, while a considerable group of spring hats show a decided swing and curl of the brim which lends much vivacity to faces of certain types. Most of the shapes, however, are modelled on lines suitable to make any man enjoy their companionship. Flexibility a Factor Flexibility combined with lightweight make the new styles more comfortable, at the same time adapting themselves for many occasions such as outdoor sporting events. The feasibility of this vogue is also reflected in the summer straws, which strive for even lighter weight than their predecessors of a year ago. Topping all is the style element which has been preserved to the highest degree. Light colors still reign supreme among the spring blendings. There are plenty of pearl grays, smart tans, and pea greens to lend variety sufficient for any choice. Bands harmonize with the colors of the felt used, while the alluring colored band appears to come in for its share of noirity. Cling to Conservative Lines Latest presentations appear to elongate towards conservative lines, the Fedora and Alpine shapes occupying the front positions among older men's hats, as contrasted with the youthful tendency of diamond shapes and dented in plan of the summer straw. Shades are meeting a happier extreme along fewer ultra colorings. Most of the styles will be based on less radical blending. Light Sailor Straws Always recognized as an institution in summer headwear, the light sailor straw will most likely set the pace for this season's trend. Whites, light browns and tans hit the high spots in shades. Rough straws and loose weaves of exceedingly light texture assume the leadership of the showings, while the usual variety of novelty weavings will be heard from. Plain black hatbands will be the keynote, although accompanied by bands of varying tints to blend with the straw. Colored bands in many mixtures will also be seen, notwithstanding the fact that conservative dressers still outlaw this idea. Old Standbys in Favor Old standbys, both Leghorns and Panamas, will again grace the heads of older men and a few of the younger bloods. These, too, will predominate in lightweights, with many in the well-liked Optimo shapes. For the ultra-conservative men there are good selections in Bangkoks to follow with the vogue of the season. While the topcoat is being worn, many sprightly young men and some of the older men will find the derby rendering a much wanted aristocratic touch. Like many other trends in men's fashion into its own. Once again it is the corset that shall provide 'the line that leads to youth." Change in Corsets It is, however, a corset distinctly different from the corset of yester-year. Gone—and one can scarcely believe it ever existed—is the large, cumbersome corset with its ugly high top and stiff bouling. It is a tiny corset—scarcely boned at all—fashioned of beautiful, soft fabrics and attractively trimmed that Millady may choose today. The ideal figure; modistes remark, for this season is the one that suggests the straight uncurved line of a pencil. This means that corsettiers must cope with the problem of flattening the line of the lower back in order to fit the figure for the narrow tube styles. A back section of material is used to have a straightening effect and to hold figure and corset in place. Additional garters, well placed, also help in this important problem. The Topless Corset Rarely, if ever, does one see a corset with a top except for the very heavy figure. More often the corset is topless and resembles a girdle because of its light boning. The brassiere and corset combination which consists of a new one-piece garment commonly known as the "corselette" is very popular for the slender figure, especially for sports or negligee use. are plenty of pearl grays, smart tans, and pea greens to lend variety sufficient for any choice. Very large women prefer the lacing models, which can be adjusted to the individual figure more easily.
