The well went on production during the afternoon, flowing clean oil of 32 deg. gravity. This well is the biggest producer that has been brought in near Los Angeles for more than six months. It materially changes the outlook for the new Dominguez Field, indicating that it is capable of wells similar to those secured from the once phenomenally productive Meyer sand at Santa Fe Springs, operators say. Carson No. 1 is located on the south slope of Dominguez Hill, two miles southwest of Compton, and about one mile off the Harbor Boulevard. It was drilled to a depth of 4231 feet and was completed in four and one-half months, according to Union officials. The treatment of diphtheria is expensive; prevention, inexpensive. MAGNATE REFUSES TESTIMONY TODAY (Coutlued from Page One) government to the reserves you have fulfilled the scope of the resolution. "The something you seek to do has already been done by congress." Littleton said that, having done its work, there was no justification of continuing its examination of Sinclair. Littleton held that the "right of congressional committees to subpoena witnesses and their records and books has never been sustained." Sinclair leaned back comfortably while Littleton delivered his statement, idly examining the fit of a pair of new spats and blowing smoke rings. "If your contention is correct, no congressional committee can go ahead with its present investigations. We might as well close up and quit." Walsh finally interjected. "The committee might as well quit unless they keep within their well defined powers." Senator Spencer asked if Littleton meant to imply that congress should not investigate in order to obtain data for wise legislation. "Certainly not," shouted Littleton, "when it depends upon the intelligence and resources of its committee members, but it has no right to take me away from my business for weeks at a time to teach you how to legislate." The senators to a man sat up rigidly in their chairs when they heard that. COOLIDGE URGES TAX REDUCTION WASHINGTON, March 21—President Coolidge today sent word to the Capitol for Republican leaders to exert every pressure to secure early enactment of the tax reduction bill. The president's wish for speedy action was expressed by Senator Smoot of Utah, chairman of the senate finance committee, at a conference at the White House. ANOTHER STEP IN CONTEST OVER $2,000,000 ESTATE SAN FRANCISCO, March 21. Another step had been made today in the fight over the $2,000,000 estate of Dr. Albert Abrams, following the granting of an injunction to three executors of the estate to prevent the trustees of the Abrams college of electronic medicine from an alleged attempt to appropriate to themselves properties of the college, valued at more than a million dollars. Upton Sinclair, author, has resigned as a college trustee, it was learned today. PLAIN DEALER CLASSIFIED ADS PROOF RESULTS has no right to take me away from my business for weeks at a time to teach you how to legislate." The senators to a man sat up rigidly in their chairs when they heard that. DOLLEY SUSPENDED SAN FRANCISCO, March 21—Suspension of Harell H. Dolley, chief field prohibition director in California, ordered by immigration commissioner Blair, head of the bureau of internal revenue. Washington, was revoked today in a telegram to Director Samuel F. Rutter here. LOS ANGELES, March 21.—Harold H. Dolley, chief state prohibition agent, was to be informed today that he has been temporarily suspended by Commissioner Blair, of the internal revenue department. Dolley, alleged to have tapped telephone wires in securing evidence on liquor violators and accused of other irregularities in office, has been under investigation by the grand jury here for some time, but his suspension came as a surprise. If Dolley is in Los Angeles he could be located today. It was reliably reported that he went to San Francisco last night. The grand jury, it was learned, will go ahead today with its investigation of the "dry" chief Elmer Roessener, city editor of a San Francisco newspaper, was scheduled to be the principal witness. Three other San Francisco newspaper men, Walter Crowley, J. J. Parks and Dean Mason have already been quizzed by the grand jury. The grand jury will possibly end its probe next week, it was stated. CHARGE ATTEMPT TO BALK INQUIRY WASHINGTON, March 21.—Suggestions that there is a move alocot within the internal revenue bureau to bulk an investigation of its activities were made this afternoon when a senate investigating committee called A. J. Bradley, a department auditor, to testify. WASHINGTON, March 21.—Another congressional investigation—into the reports of bond duplication in the government printing office—became imminent today when the house rules committee favorably reported a resolution for such an inquiry by a committee of five members of the house. WASHINGTON, March 21.—Charging "official corruption." Representative Kindred, Republican of New York today offered a resolution in the house proposing an investigation of the prohibition enforcement bureau in the treasury department. A probe along similar lines is now being made in the Senate. One reason we have holdouts in baseball every spring is that the fellow who fails to sign the first contract tendered him gets more attention than the gent who "takes his medicine gracefully."
