PERRIS LIVESTOCK DAY IS POSTPONED
Dealing to cooperate in the fullest extent with the state and county authorities, the committee in charge of the Livestock Day to be held in Perris March 13, has decided to postpone the day indefinitely for this year.
This action was taken after considerable discussion and deliberation. It was felt that while this change would inconvenience many people who would be planning a trip to Perris valley on that day, the holding of the program might possibly be the cause of spreading the disease in this part of the country. While no trace of the foot and mouth trouble has been found in this part of the state, it was feared that someone who had come from the northern part of the state might visit the stock in Perris, and thus cause an outbreak in the south.
QUESTIONNAIRE SENT MERCHANTS
Secretary George W. Raid of the C. of C. has issued this letter in connection with a questionnaire sent to local merchants:
The business men and manufacturers have each been sent a questionnaire covering their particular line of business. The C. of C. is endeavoring to obtain definite information. These questionnaires should be filled out completely.
Do not assume that because you are dealing in meats that the secretary will understand that you are dealing in a number of other things, because he does not know.
If in addition to meats you are selling eggs and butter and dairy products, those should be mentioned under the heading "Merchant."
Farm Lands Brokers To Confer at Chico
Invitations are being issued through the press and reality boards to all farm lands brokers, land operators, and Lackers and public officials to attend the fourth district farm land conference of the California Real Estate Ass'n to be held Saturday, March 22, at Chico, Butte-co.
Chamber of Commerce men, officials of the various statewide development organizations, and boards of trade will appear on the program.
The purpose of these farm lands conferences as exemplified in the big attendance at the Riverside, Fresno and El Centro meetings, is to arouse renewed interest in the great question of Back to the Land.
The Chico meeting will consist of morning and afternoon sessions, luncheon and a dinner, and the presiding officer will be Chris R. Jones, vice president of the California Real Estate Ass'n whose district includes the Sacramento valley. There will be speakers from the east, and also from the state of California, and there is going to be a gathering of farm land brokers from many points.
The Chico meeting is to precede the fifth farm meeting to be held in the latter part of April at Sacramento.
Among the speakers invited to address the Chico meeting will be Edwin T. Keiser, state real estate commissioner; J. V. Meudenhall, president California Approved Land Settlement Ass'n.; Sam H. Greene, manager California Dairy Council; Dr. Elwood Mead, Berkeley and Henry P. Barbour, presi-

Tarkington Assists In Screening Novel
Booth Tarkington evinced a keen interest in the filming of his story, "Pied Piper Malone," written especially for Thomas Meighan, the star of the Paramount picture, which is closing its local engagement at the California tonight. He was on the "sets" during the filming of a greater part of the scenes for the story.
Although several of Mr. Tarkington's novels have been put into picture form, this is the first one he has written originally for the screen and the first one he has actually had a working part in.
The actual working out of the scenario by Tom Geraghty interested the Hoosier author very much—he wanted to be on the spot when his characters were brought to life.
"Pied Piper Malone" is a tale of the New England shipping town of Oldport. It is a sailor-town.
