Road funds were swelled more than $700,000 from the revenues collected by the secretary of state for motor vehicle licenses and the sale of gasoline during 1923. Total motor vehicle registration for the year was 48,741, and the fees collected amounted to $21,670.75 as compared to $216,124.75 for the year 1922. The sum of $422,-692.74 was collected as gasoline tax on the basis of one cent a gallon up to June 9, and three cents thereafter. In 1922, under one cent tax, $174,696.36 were collected. CALIF.
