Saturday, January 26, 1924 STROMBERG MAKES THAT FORD OVER "Every automobile owner is interested in at least two things about his car," says West Bros. Stromberg carburetor specialists of Anaheim, "the amount of gasoline consumed and the power he gets from his motor. Carburetion is the direct cause of both factors. "Professor George Granger Brown of the University of Michigan states that the enormous loss of one hundred million dollars yearly is the result of inefficient carburetion on five million Ford cars now in use. "An engineering society lately tested several makes of cars to ascertain relative consumption of gasoline. Because the Ford was the lightest, they found it about the most economical. But when they figured consumption of gasoline per pound of dead weight, they discovered that the filver was the most expensive of all. "Rig up your Ford with an improved Stromberg Hot Spot Carburetor and pound for pound 'Lizzie' will lead all of them and each Ford owner will be richer by twenty-five dollars each year from the time that the improved carburetor and hot spot manifold are applied. Not only will it greatly increase gasoline mileage, but the motor will start easier, it will increase the power, improve acceleration and give a smoothness in operation never before experienced. "Put a modern carburetor on your Tin Lizzie and conserve our ever shrinking oil wealth to the extent of millions of barrels a year." West Bros. will install a Stromberg on your car on ten days trial. See them at Los Angeles and Chestnut Anaheim. RADIO ERICKSON FUNERAL SERVICE An unique funeral service will be conducted for Rev. E. L. Erickson who died at Anaheim. GREAT EXAMPLE OF COOPERATION C. W. HIBBERT Among the many instances of remarkable success attained by cooperative marketing associations in California none stands out brighter than that of the Challenge Cream and Butter Ass'n, which has just completed thirteen years of successful operation. Starting in 1911 with three employees, a one-horse rig and an ideal, this association of dairy farmers has had a phenomenal growth, until today it is acknowledged to be the largest and most successful co-operative butter marketing house in the United States, handling the dairy products of the several large and finely equipped co-operativ creameries in California. The growth of the association during 1923 was particularly striking; the records of the produce exchange phoning that the recent increase alone in business of the organization is greater than the total gross sales of any other butter distributors in this territory. Calif. will place a bust of Benjamin Franklin, who published the leading weekly paper in the United States before and after the Revolutionary war, the Pennsylvania Gazette, and which has since become the Saturday Evening Post. Designers, engravers, paper men and printers of So. Calif. have joined in issuing a brochure on Franklin, listing his services to civilization, and especially to America. It is almost unbelievable that one man could have been so creative and so versatile and at the same time so public-spirited. For while Franklin invented many practical devices for human comfort out of which great fortunes might have been made, he always refused to have any one of his inventions patented. He also wrote the most popular autobiography and the most beloved almanac, Poor Richard's, and yet he never copyrighted anything he ever wrote. He lived to be 84 years old and by 42 had earned a competency thru his great newspaper and gave 42 years after that without financial compensation, to the welfare of humanity. Among his almost innumerable services he organized our national postal system and was the first postmaster-general.
