HAROLD LLOYD AS HIS
FRIENDS KNOW HIM
The world has long since recognized Harold Lloyd as a young man of character and accepted him as the ideal American boy, but because of his inherent shyness and modesty, only an intimate friend can get all the fascinating sideights of his character and personality that make Lloyd the lovable human being that he is.
ing he is as serious as anyone could be, but the minute work stops he is full of pranks.
Lloyd has kept himself from being conceited by the thought that perhaps he is not as good as he really thinks he is.
He is a rabid motion picture fan, likes opera, is crazy about the theater.
ERECT OFFICE AT MEMORIAL PARK
W. A. Morrison, supt. of central Memorial Park, the cemetery project at the corner Huntington Beach and Santa boulevards, states that he will be glad to conduct the park all day Sunday over the ground, as well asswer any questions.
An office is being erected in junction of Huntington Beach Santa Ana boulevards for this purpose. It will be a great information bureau for the district. All around this office be planted shrubbery and fill the plan being to improve the appearance of this busy corner.
The work of grading this is proceeding with great difficulty shortly other work will mence. To watch the program this will be interesting, but the building of a memorial is something quite new to formia, and no doubt this will keenly followed by many people.
When it is remembered this will be one of the places of California, a special beauty to which visitors be taken with pride, the nature of the building up on tral Memorial Park must be preciated, says John H. McKenna the promoter and general manager. Besides many features have never yet been used in cropolis work will be introduced here and this will provide est not only for the general lie, but for men who are esteated in this from a professional standpoint. This also means course, that many hundred these men will visit this both before and after its conclusion.

the world has long since recognized Harold Lloyd as a young man of character and accepted him as the ideal American boy, but because of his inherent shyness and modesty, only an intimate friend can get all the fascinating sideights of his character and personality that make Lloyd the lovable human being that he is.
If you would know Harold Lloyd as a friend and brother you should know that—
Lloyd's pet aversion is appearing in public, whether before an audience or any place where he might be recognized and subjected to the plaudits of the crowd.
His social set is not exceptionally large and is comprised mostly of people out-of-the-motion picture industry.
He is somewhat shy with women, but, nevertheless, is a favorite with them.
Lloyd is a close student of human nature and sees humor where others see only the tragic, but his inspiration for comedy comes not from his home association but from persons outside his home.
He has a remarkable memory.
He is a combination of frankishness and seriousness. While work
DAWES DEMANDS COMMON SENSE
By FRANK E. MASON
(1. N. S. Staff Correspondent)
PARIS, Jan. 14. The inter-affiliated committee of experts summoned by the allied reparations commission to examine Germany's capacity for reparations payments, held its first meeting today under the presidency of Charles Gates Dawes of Chicago, who demanded "a common sense investigation."
The committee met at 11 o'clock.
"We are practical men, free from all political pressure," declared Dawes. "I hope this inquiry will be conducted along the lines indicated by common sense. The success of this commission depends upon whether, in the public mind and conscience of the allies, there is adequate conception of the great disaster which faces each allied nation unless common sense is crowned.
"For the moment, we are less concerned with Germany's capacity for payment than this committee's present capacity for courage to act."
The committee will examine means of balancing the German budget. It is likely that sessions of the committee will be held in Berlin and other German cities, as well as Paris.

He is as serious as anyone could be, but the minute work stops he is full of pranks.
Lloyd has kept himself from being conceited by the thought that perhaps he is not as good as he really thinks he is.
He is a rabid motion picture fan, likes opera, is crazy about the theatre and dances a great deal. Although the jazz life holds no appeal to Lloyd.
He is not satisfied with what he is just now. Lloyd believes that to be satisfied with oneself is to stop climbing, and to stop climbing, he believes, is to halt one's happiness.
He has such perfect control over his feeling that however tired or worried or impatient or grieved he might really be feeling, he always has a cheery word and a smile on the surface.
At the beautiful California Theatre, Harold is apparing in what folks say is his finest picture to date. "Why Worry" the title of the picture, is attracting big crowds of Anaheim picture fans, and juicing from the rounds of laughter. "Why Worry" is a huge success. It remains at the California until Wednesday night.

ROME, Jan. 14.—To commemorate the first anniversary of the march on Rome, the Italian mint has issued new gold coinage, abolishing, in some cases, paper notes.

VETERAN'S FORTUNE COMES TOO LATE
RENO, Jan 11.—Back pension money amounting to $2,500 awarded to Morgan T. Williams, civil war veteran, by the government and notice that in future the old soldier would be given an allowance of $72 per month was received today.
Williams had the misfortune to be committed to the state insane asylum last month from Goldfield and his friends fear that the money has arrived too late to be of much service to Williams, who is 83 years of age.
Supt. Richardson of the institution today applied for guardianship papers for Williams in order to look after his estate.
