BREED ACT MAY BE RETROACTIVE If the supreme court confirms the reversal of decision by the third district court of appeal and gives traffic officers their former status of state traffic officers, its action will not be retroactive, C. N. Mozley, deputy district attorney, told today. A statement, said Mozley, the officers have again become attached to Sheriff Sam Jernigan's office, and are being paid by the county, as they were before the Breed motor vehicle act took effect. The appellate court upheld the constitutionality of the act in the provision in question and ordered State Controller Ray L. Riley to honor the warrant of Thomas Ryan, Sacramento traffic officer, whose case was made a test. Riley, it is considered sure, will appeal to the supreme court. He said so recently, and is not believed to have changed his mind. District Attorney A. P. Nelson has said all along that the appointment of the former county traffic officers as state officers was unconstitutional, because the funds from which they were to be paid were county and not state monies. INFLUENZA VICTIM Mrs. Almina A. Himes, 84, mother of L. S. Himes, undertaker, and Mrs. S. E. Plinkerton, both of Fullerton, died at her home at Santa Ana, shortly after midnight of influenza. Mrs. Himes had been ill several days at the home of her daughter, SNOWBALL BATTLE STAGED AT CAPITAL Congress, which opened with a bitter fight over the house floor leadership, has just witnessed another real battle—a snowball fight. It was staged between sessions by the Democrats and Republicans. But no congressmen suffered injuries as it was put on by the pages of the members of both parties. The judges returned a secret verdict. Mrs. Lucy Thompson, 1211 West Fourth street, Santa Ana. Besides the foregoing relatives Mrs. Himes leaves sons, Powell Himes, Santa Ana, and Andrew Himes, Independence, Mo. If the Missouri son finds it possible to make the trip funeral services will be delayed to Monday, otherwise services will be held Friday, probably at Fullerton. The Foster holdings of the Petroleum Midway has produced some wonderful wells, No. 1-2 at 5007 proved no exception to the run of the Foster producers coming in at the above big figure and producing 26 gravity oil. The Foster well is another deep sand triumph for the field and the Petroleum Midway. The Henderson Petroleum Syndicate continue to share in the best successes of the Long Beach field. Completing Hoover No. 2 at 4500 feet, a 1500-barrel well resulted. M. H. Soyster, former state oil and gas supervisor handled the geological work for the Henderson-Hoover well, and to him is given credit for getting a good well in territory that was somewhat doubtful on account of the water menace. With the United Oil Co.'s western extension well, Bixby No. 1 over 4800 feet deep, the outlook for the northwest section of the field has not improved. This test well has been looked upon for some little time to hold the key to northwestern development, and unless it shows up better soon the outlook becomes rather doubtful. The California Drilling Co. has started an innovation for drilling company at Long Beach. This drilling concern has installed a complete and up-to-the-minute field shop, where all its drilling equipment can be repaired and kept in condition on the ground all the time. The California Drilling Co. has a number of wells drilling in the field, the most im- PLAN WAREHOUSE IN FULLERTON A ten-year lease on a warehouse site has been obtained from the Union Pacific in Fullerton by the Van Di-n-Young Co., Santa Ana, dealers in building improvements, it is announced. GET BIG WELL IN TORRANCE FIELD By E. J. Munger The discovery company of the Torrance-Lomita field took the production honors this week. The Chansler-Canfield Midway put a 1200 barrel well on production on the Kettler property. If Kettler No. 1 is an index to the property the lense will add quite materially to the output of the Torrance-Lomita field. Kettler No. 1 is located in the eastern end of the field. Completed at a depth in excess of 3800 feet the well is making 25 gravity, clean oil. On the Torrance lease the C. C. M. O. got a nice producer at No. 25. Completed at 3500 feet No. 25 is paking 1000 barrels. As an example of how close and town lot drilling is effecting the output of new wells in the central Lomita section of the field, the case of the Cheet Oil Trust's well is sighted. Drilled to the same depth as neighboring wells and brought in with the same care and attention the Cheet well started off at 350 barrels. Contrary to the reports current on the Gerner well the Federal Drilling Company will not make a deep test. Drilled to 3870 feet the Gerner well developed water. It is the intention to come back 100 feet and cement off producing the well from the upper zone. Operators seem a bit skeptical about trying for deep sand production in the Lomita section of the field, and it seems the Federal Drilling Company has no intention to lead off. Two wells, the first drilled by the Julian Petroleum Corporation at Torrance did not come up to ex- VISITOR PLEASED AT CITY'S GROWTH Clifton Bobst will leave for his home in Hamilton co., Neb., Friday, after a short visit here with his aunt, Mrs. M. Probst, of Olive rd. This is the young man's first visit to Anaeheim in 13 years and he sees great improvement over the community. Mr. Probst, who is a farmer, tells that many places in his locality were hard hit by the recent financial situation, and are very eager concerning their coming summer's crops. Mr. Probst brought a load of cattle to the west. Correct this sentence: "I am afraid she has boy on the brain," said the mother, "but she leads her class in school." pectations by any means. No. 6 a southwest line test well went to 3762, found a little oil, not enough to make a flowing well. It is the intention to put in tubing carrying a packer in order to see if some gas pressure cannot be accumulated that will assist the well to produce. Julian No. 1 formerly known as the Torrance-Lomita oyalty Syndicate went below the 3800 mark, looked rather good, but when put on production the best it would do was to ball some heavy oil. Deep test drilling on western and northern outskirts of the Torrance field in the hands of the Union and Standard has not met with any success. The Union Oil Company's Weston well has passed the 5400 mark and not found anything. The Standard-Oil Company's Pelkner No. 1 at better than 5200 feet is not showing anything that looks like oil. patronage has made possible the greatest year of our business career. in our policies spur us on to greater undertakings.
