LARGE CROWDS AT TABERNACLE The evangelistic meetings being conducted by Evangelists Root and Simmons are attracting large hearings and creating a deep interest in the community. Mr. Simmons is surpassing all expectations as a leader of Song and soleteist. His song services are enthusiastic and spiritual, and he has a faculty of getting folks to sing. After his solo Sunday night the large audience broke out in applause. Mrs. Simmons is his able accompanist. Each night Evangelist Root calls for the number of Scripture verses read during the day, and thousands of verses are reported at each service. He lays especial emphasis on the teaching of the Bible and invites his hearers to measure every message by that Book. He uses no cheap, elap-trap methods, but depends solely on the power of the Gospel to win. No personal work is done during the invitation hymn, which is a welcome feature to the many non-church members who are attending. In his sermon on "The Leprosy of Sin" he showed that sin is like leprosy in that both have small beginnings; both are contagious; both are incurable by man; both are separative, dividing homes, friends and man from God; and the final result of each is the same, namely, death. "The wazes of sin is death." He stated that Naaman was like many today, hoping to buy salvation, going to the wrong place to find it, expecting God to come to their terms, refusing absolute obedience, desiring to substitute their opinions for the revealed will of God and wanting a great demonstration to be made over them when they come into the church. FIRST EXECUTION BY LETHAL GAS RENO, Nev., Jan. 10.—The first execution by lethal gas in the United States will take place at the state prison Feb. 8. Judge J. Emmett Walsh at Why Chiros Cannot Obtain Licenses That the will of the people is being thwarted by the Injunction trying up the Board of Chiropractic Examiners was charged by several Anaheim chiropractic practitioners today. "Chiropractors are perfectly satisfied with the law the people of this state gave us last November by a majority of 150,000 halots, even tho the Board of Chiropractic Examiners has been unseated temporarily on a technicality by court order thru a suit brot by "drugless practicioners," declared Dr. Coleman today. "There are a number of very competent members of the chiropractic profession in Anaheim and Orange co, who have been unable to obtain licenses because of this injunction," continued Dr. Coleman. "On the other hand, the way has been left wide open at present for many unsculpulous 'drugless practicioners' and so-called chiropractors." This situation, embarrassing both to the public and to legitimate chiropractic practitioners, of course cannot be remedied until the Injunction has been removed and the Board of Chiropractic Examiners again functions. ASKS $700 ALIMONY LOS ANGELES, Jan. 10.—Mrs. Edna Caspary, who claims she was an unwanted wife and that she was twice placed in a Pasadena private sanitarium without cause or process of law, contended before Judge George H. Thompson today that such treatment from her husband, Howard Caspary, constituted cruelty and entitled her to a divorce. She asks $700 monthly alimony further alleging unfaithfulness. Caspary, president of the California Rendering Co., was expected to tell his side of the affair today.
