S. O. COMPANY TO MAKE ETHYL GAS
General Motor Chemical Company announces that a contract has been entered into between that company and the Standard Oil Company of Indiana for the distribution of ethyl gas, the new fuel developed by General Motors Research Corporation. It has the effect of taking the knock out of a motor, no matter under what conditions or load an automobile is driven, says the Chevrolet Review.
Distribution by the Standard Oil Company of Indiana will cover the states of Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, South Dakota and North Dakota as quickly as installation can be made. The southern part of this distributing territory is being equipped this winter and the northern part will be equipped as early as possible in the spring, in order that motorists may be supplied when the 1924 motoring season opens.

FIND MAN'S BODY IN REAR OF CAR
CALEXICO, Dec. 22.—Calexico and other towns along the Mexican border were thrown into consternation today when the body of H. H. Griswold, prominent real estate broker and insurance man, was found two miles west of Calexico in the rear seat of his auto.
Griswold is believed to have committed suicide, as a small empty bottle that is believed to have contained cyanide was found in Griswold's car. However, authorities are making a thorough investigation to determine whether Griswold was the victim of foul play.
OAKLAND SALES RECORD IN STATE
More Oaklands were sold in Orange county during November than any other single model of six-cylinder cars, according to Harry L. Turton, northern Orange county distributor.
Between November, 1922, and November of this year, Oakland's gain in sales in California was 260 per cent. Among sixes alone the Oakland rose from 12th to third place between March and November of this year.
Among the larger percentage gains in sales of various cars in California in November over November, 1922, were: Ford, 45 per cent; Star, 96 per cent; Studebaker, 25 per cent; Overland, 52 per cent; Maxwell, 36; Nash, 21; Hudson, 42; Essex, 27; Reo, 35.
In Orange county to Dec. 1, 5652 cars were sold, and in November, 449.
Because of the earthquake in Japan, which destroyed practically all motor vehicles in Yokohama and a large percentage of those in Tokyo, there is a great demand for rlow-priced passenger cars and trucks.
The gap of the spark plug should be adjusted to the thickness of the spark-plug gauge provided by the manufacturer.

Girl Who Asked Death as Her Christmas Gift Gets Her Wife
CAMDEN, N. J. Dec. 24.—Helen Hamilton, the girl who asked death as her Christmas gift, will be buried Wednesday.
Christmas day her body—a shadow after eight years of constant suffering—will rest in the room where gifts, from almost every state in the union, are pilied high.
"I want my child's body with me Christmas day," said Mrs. Hamilton, the child's widowed mother. "Death was the gift which she prayed.
"I know she is happy."
Helen Hamilton's plight attracted nation-wide attention a month ago. At that time she and her mother were evicted from their home. The landlady objected to a sick child in the home.
At that time Helen wanted to live. Her thirteenth birthday was approaching. Her parents granted. Eight years ago, Helen while playing with other children fell into a ditch. Her paniors, in a spirit of play, ered her with dirt. She felt it was discovered her heart dilated until every waking was one of pain.
Following her thirteenth day, she grew somewhat bolder. Then a reaction set in. For last week, she suffered in pain.
"Please Jesus, take me," her constant prayer.
She died Sunday. Her last guest was that her coffin be scribed: "Mother's Darling, singing with Jesus."
The funeral Wednesday we public. It is expected thousands will attend.

UN KINDLES
FIRE IN AUTO
WOODLAND, Dec. 22.—Conference of heat rays resulting from the arrangement of sliding glass windows and doors in Mrs. John Cadenasso's new automobile resulted in such concentration on the upholstered seat of the car that fire resulted. A prism was armed similar to that obtained by a powerful magnifying glass. Smoke arising from the car gave the first intimation of trouble. The fire was not stopped until the cushion was destroyed.
ELIEVE PAYROLL
HOLDUP THWARTED
LOS ANGELES, Dec. 22.—Police detectives who arrested eight suspects at noon today declared that the arrests had started a $10,000 payroll robbery planned for this afternoon. The suspects were taken to the jail and booked for investigation. It was charged they held J. J. Grigg, a pool hall owner, Saticoy, near Ventura, several days ago and robbed him of $100.
When making an improvised covering for the gas tank filler pipe to take the place of a lost be sure to allow some opening for air otherwise the vacuumed system will not operate.
Faith as a mover of mountains is not relied upon in Pasadena. Steam shovels and trucks are more favored, and even these have a hard enough time with their job of widening West Colorado street from 18 feet to a varying width of from 60 to 100 feet. The widening process, which started Nov. 7 at the west end of the Colorado street bridge, will proceed to the Country Club in order to facilitate traffic to the Tournament of Roses celebration New Year's day. The whole working force from O. K. Hearte, engineer in charge of construction, down to the water boy, and up again to the giant steam shovels which gnaw away at the side of the hill as they enjoyed it, have adopted the slogan, "Out of the trenches by Xmas."
The cut is approximately a quarter of a mile long and at one point is 80 feet high. There is approximately 50,000 yards of rock to be removed, the removing being done by two shovels which work 18 hour shifts, and 15 trucks which haul away the hill as it is brought down.
The process which has been followed thus far, according to observations made the other day by the Harry D. Riley Studebaker publicity car which was sent to the scene by special permission from W. C. Earle, city engineer of Pasadena, is to eat away the support at the bottom and then get into the clear when the top comes tumbling down.
Three times the shovels have done their work so well that when the top came tumbling down they were completely buried under thousands of tons of loose rook. No one was injured, as the slides always give plenty of warning before they get down to real business.
In addition to the widening of the road from the bridge to the country club, a new road has been cut thru along the west side of the canyon from Colorado street to Linda Vista street bridge. The street is to be known as Puente drive.

XMAS BONUSES IN AIR THESE DAYS
Santa Claus got the jump on their friends and relatives when he distributed substantial Christmas bonuses to the employees of the Golden State National Bank. It was learned today.
All of the banks in the city are expected to do likewise. The Anaheim National Bank will distribute the usual amount of approximately a month's salary to all employees, according to Caglier A. B. McCord.
While no action has been taken by the directors of the First National, American Savings, and the Southern County banks, all have observed the custom of distributing Christmas or New Year's bonuses for years past.
The packing houses do not make a habit of distributing bonuses, but some of them do something just as good or better. The growers of the Anaheim Co-operative Orange Ass'n., for example, some 230, all told, in this connection have received a total of $22,000, as a return on the 1920 building fund, amounting to $100,000, which was made on three years ago by borrowing 10 per packed box from each grower. Borrowed in a rather good year and returned in a rather poor one, this cash was mighty welcome.
The Anaheim Citrus Fruit Association paid out the usual half-cent per packed box to passengers who stayed through the season.
