WILL PROBE WOMAN'S CHARGE LOS ANGELES, Dec. 20.—Federal authorities announced today that they have launched a thorough and sweeping investigation into the entire sensational case in which Mrs. Helen La Male of Long Beach, charges thru a divorce complaint against Elsher La Male, that her husband tried to "auction" her to Lou H. Baker, a negro, prominent figure in ganbling circles of the Juarez, Mexico, underworld. Lucen Wheeler, agent in charge here of the department of justice, declared today that if it can be proven that La Male, well known in Texas and Oklahoma as a teatrical manager and dramatic school conductor, conspired to sell his wife into a life of slavery, he will be prosecuted by the government. One of the first angles the federal authorities said they would investigate was a report from El Paso that a second "Mrs. La Male has been found" there. It was admitted at the federal building today that department of justice agents had interviewed Mrs. La Male as her hiding place in Long Beach. They refused to disclose the information received, but immediately ordered the investigation to be started in various parts of the country.
