Miscellaneous TAX COLLECTIONS REPORTED SLOW County tax collections during October amounted to only $121,000 in round figures, compared with $126,00 in October of last year, in spite of higher valuations. Collections began a day earlier this year, on Oct. 15. Collections have been slow also in November thus far, according to Collector J. C. Lamb. "Many people come in here and tell us how they have been swindled purchasing oil units," Lamb declared today. "They spend more time telling us about their troubles than in paying their taxes. Many of them debate whether to send good money after bad or let the property go." Lamb has 14 alds and still his office is rushed. The scores of subdivisions the past year have meant hundreds of more tax payers, and the natural increase in population also has increased the work of the office. Dec. 3, is the final date on which taxes may be paid on the first installment without being booeted as delinquent. White valuations cannot be changed, rentakes can be corrected, albo the board of supervisor has to authorize corrections. Collection of taxes begins annually on the third Monday of October, but that date varies from year to year. I. O. O. F.
