DINNER GUEST, SURPRISED WITH EVENING PARTY. Mr. AND Mrs. O. V. Barkman of Fullerton were dinner guests Wednesday evening of Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Wright at their pretty home on N. Clementine rf. After dinner the guests retired to the parlor for an evening in conversation, but at eight o'clock Mr. Wright went to the door in response to the bell and found a group of twelve awaiting on the porch. As they were admitted Mrs. Barkman was told that the visitors had been asked to come in for a jolly surprise on her birthday anniversary. She was presented with a lovely gift. Tables were produced and five hundred enjoyed the remainder of the evening. At midnight, scores were counted and it was found that Mrs. Rex Bagley had made high, Mrs. Joe Helke, second and Mrs. Edith Ellis, third; Men's awards went to O. J. Dickman, first; Rex Bagley, second and Lloyd Gabriel, third. A delicious two course lunch was enjoyed after the games. Guests of Mr. and Mrs. Wright included Mr. and Mrs. Rex Bagley, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Helke, Mr. and Mrs. W. K. Suiter, Mr. and Mrs. O. J. Dickman, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Gabriel, Mr. and Mrs. E. Ellis, and the honored guest and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. O. V. Barkman. Quarlet Wins Prizes Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Fergus entertained last evening for a number of their friends, the same group which meets frequently for games of five hundred. Prizes went to four families. Fireman Banquet Remembering the happy occasions of last year and two years ago, when Anaheim's fire laddies entertained their families with a big banquet, the stunt was repeated last night, when forty-one fireman and their wives and children sat down to a big chicken supper served by the Ladies Auxiliary in the Legion club rocina. An impromptu program of short talks and unlimited badinage featured the banquet hour, and afterward a theatre party was formed where the vaudeville program was enjoyed. There is earnest talk of making the banquet a regular annual event, of which all heartily approve. NOTABLE PASTOR CONDUCTS BIBLE STUDY HERE Dr. WILLIAM P. WHITE, of the Bible Extension League, will conduct a Bible conference each afternoon at 2:30 and evening at 7:30, in the Presbyterian church beginning next Sunday. The meetings will continue throughout the week. Dr. White will have for his general afternoon theme the Epistle to the Philippians, and in the evening, "Thinking through the Bible." Dr. White has been a pastor for almost thirty years and is well adapted to a sympathetic and constructive teaching of the word of God. He does not ride a hobby, he says that what God's children need is a new interest in the Bible as a whole. His aim is to get people to read and study this wonderful book for themselves. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Russell and their charming daughters, Audrey and Dixie; Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Macbeth of Mankato, Minn.; Mrs. Chapin of Eagle Rock, and J. W. Married in Los Angeles A friendship of a great many years standing culminated Wednesday in the marriage of Mrs. M. B. Hoskins, of Anaheim, to Mr. O. B. Lingle, formerly of Kansas, when Rev. "Bob" Shuler, of Los Angeles, performed the ceremony in that city. Their permanent residence has not been decided upon but they will be in Anaheim at least temporarily. Mrs. Lingle has made her home here with her daughter, Mrs. Sylvia Johnson, who is connected with the S. Q. R. store, and her son, Harley Hoskius. She has a large circle of friends, particularly in the White Temple, where she holds membership, who wish her all happiness wherever her home may be made. Tourists Tell of Voyage Mr. and Mrs. W. K. Federation Closes Delegates and visitors from Anaheim are discussing today the excellent club federation meeting just closed in Riverside, and the brilliant speeches made by club women of the Southland, as well as that by Mrs. Thomas G. Winter, president of the General Federation, who is a California visitor. Other outstanding speeches were made by Mrs. Robert J. Burdette, Mrs. John Urquehart, president of the state federation, Mrs. H.Atwood, of Riverside, etc. The luncheon at the Glenwood Mission Inn was also a pleasant feature of the day. Representing the local Ebell club were Mrs. Nellie E. Terry, president; Mrs. C.C.Smith, Mrs.J.P.Probst, Mrs.M.E.Canby and Mrs.H.C.Ruick.Many members of the Ebell drove over for the day, but the named members attended all three days. Word has been received from Mr. and Mrs.N.M.Durkee that they have left Ft.Worth, Texas, and are now in Oklahoma visiting relatives. They were called to Texas owing to the illness of the sister of Mr.Durkee. Mr. and Mrs.M.Eugene Durée, Mr. and Mrs.R.B.Young and Mr.Harry Horn left yesterday for the Klwansis district convention at Fresno. They traveled in a special stage which also carried delegates from Santa Ana and Fullerton. They will return Sunday. Norman were married yesterday at one o'clock at Santa Ana by Justice J. B. Cox. They were attended by Mrs. George Brown, sister of the bride. Mrs. Norman wore an attractive brown charnouse with hat, pumps and hose to match. Owing to the conditions in the old fields, they will not take a honeymoon trip at present. This evening they will be dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Blakemore at Long Beach. Mrs. Norman is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Blakemore. They have been residents of Anaheim for a long time. Discuss Dental Clinic Former Anaheimer Weds The nuptials of Mrs. Cella See and Mr. Murray Vandermaster, both of Santa Ana, was celebrated Wednesday, in the Congregational rectory, Riverside, Rev. John Gardner officiating. The groom's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Asa Vandermast, his sister, Mrs. Walter Prince, and Mrs. Hattie Wright, an aunt of Mr. Vandermast, attended the ceremony. Dinner at the Mission Inn followed the wedding, after which the bride and groom went to Los Angeles, and later will be at home in their apartment, 424 South Birch-st. Mr. Vandermast resided in Anaheim several years ago, but has lived many years in Santa Ana. He is the son of Asa Vandermast, the clothier, who operates clothing stores in Fullerton, Orange and Santa Ana, being connected with the latter store. The bride has been cashier at the Peerless cafeteria and has made a wide circle of business and social friends through her efficiency and courtesy. Dwyer entertained six tables of 500 players yesterday afternoon at her lovely home on West-st. Gay with autumn flowers, the rooms presented a most hospitable appearance and bore the fragrance of the blooms. The one o'clock luncheon was served in three courses, the autumn tints on the table furthering the motif. An hour of chatting over the approaching holiday season, the coming local talent entertainments, in which all Anaheim is interested, and other up- club. The girls have several clever singing and dancing acts and will make a great hit with the audience. One of their specialty numbers is "There's No Use Crying". The date has not been decided upon. Dental clinics in other cities have been worked out successfully and it is the desire of the local sponsors to start one as soon as possible. Funds for the clinic are furnished from the sale of goods at the Community shop. TO THE PEOPLE OF ANAHEIM This is a personal word that I would like to speak to everyone close but as I cannot do that I resort to the only method left to me. I desire you to know that the White Temple, both pastor and people, are trying to make as inspiring a Sunday night service as possible, for the benefit of all those people who have no other church connection or preference. I feel very strongly on two points: 1. Every person ought to have in his life and experience what the church alone can live—an hour of joyous, social worship. Do not leave the lat-substitute for this. Sunday is day of rest, recreation and worship. Do not leave the alter out of your life. 2. I think many do not feel that the church is for everyone. We desire it to be. I am taking this way of making it as clear as I know how that the WHITE TEMPLE desires your presence at its popular Sunday evening meetings, where the whole program each week is arranged to be practically helpful to the greatest number of people.
