MRS. HARDEN
WILL ENACT THE ROLE OF PHOEBE
MRS. HELEN HARDEN, popular Anaheim matron will have the role of Phoebe, in the Broadway musical comedy of that name presented at Anaheim high school auditorium Nov. 23, under the auspices of the Business and Professional Women's club.
Rehearsals are being made daily and the participants are learning their parts rapidly. The rehearsal this evening will be held in the Guild hall.
One of the many dances in "Phoebe," is the Bacchanale, a spectacular bullet of thirty members. It depicts the feast of Bacchus, who, with handmaidens and slaves, gives a weird and colorful interpretation of the festival of the wine. A special dance number will be contributed by Miss Gretchen Holland, popular high school girl, who will also have a part in the play. A clever plot is revealed in the comedy, the musical numbers that intersperse the scenes make it one of the most delightful of entertainments.
The other members of the cast are: Ed V. Brown as Tom Harding, juvenile lead; Miss Irene Jacques as Janet Stormway, lead; Ashleigh Chumberlain as Keene Crawford, lead; Miss Gladys Dickerson as Elith Crawford, ingenuie; Harold Conn as David Dayton, juvenile; Miss Lillian Degryse as Mrs. Crawford, the mother of Keene and Edith; Mrs. Blanche Dert Ball as Soy, Chinese maid; Harry Horn as James, English Butler; the Misses Elvira Scholens and Gretchen Holland as Mollie and Bolly Holt; Carl Mohr as Pimblee.
Measuring Social
It was not a case of the "good goods coming in small packages" at the Ladies Aid social last night given by Mrs. Spencer's group of workers, for the larger the package, the more valuable it was considered. Each guest had received a cleverly worded invitation to "count up right your feet in height" and pay five cents per foot, which brought many nickels into the coffers of the society.
Games of the lively kind kept the crowd continually on the move, and the contests were all of jolliest kind. A drawing contest, in which a picture of a guest was outlined on a Nabisco wafer, resulted in a victory for Wm. Walop, who drew a "handsome" portrait of F. N. Gibbs. Four pretty girls fed water to four sturdy boys with a teaspoon, and Paul Sloop was able to drink the greatest amount, thinking, perhaps, he had the prettiest girl to feed him. Other contests proved quite as entertaining as these.
Maurice Waugh sang several solos and other music interspersed the impromptu program. The attendance was particularly fine and the committee, the Messames T. H. Walker, Dale Hamilton Evans and Fannie Goddard, deserve hearty congratulations. The Misses Juliet Evans and Josephine Cook, assisted Mrs. F. N. Gibbs in serving hot chocolate and sandwiches.
