SPECIAL TRUCK TO CARRY EXPLOSIVES
BOSTON, Nov. 1.—Explosives can now be carried over the highways of the state without danger.
Fire Marshal George C. Neal recently approved a specially constructed motor truck for the safe transportation of explosives over the highways. The truck is provided with many safeguards. Smaller trucks of similar design also are being built.
The state department of public safety demands that all vehicles transporting explosives must first be approved. Since the advent of the automobiles small dealers have been using ordinary trucks, while the larger dealers have used horse-drawn vehicles.
The truck approved by Marshal Neal has a compartment protected from fire from the exhaust or motor, there being three air spaces and three inches between the under floor to the top of the frame of the machine.
There is an opening between the cab and the body and the machine is equipped with three locked doors which work automatically. The doors cannot open under ordinary conditions while the motor is running, and the opening of the door stops the operation of the motor.
In case of an accident causing the motor to stop, there is an emergency key, which cuts off all electrical connections. The gas tank is protected by wire screen to prevent fire.
ARIZ MAY SEARCH FOR RICH CACHE
FLAGSTAFF, Nov. 1.—Two barrels of good old Kentucky whisky, several cases of rare old wine and an assortment of Jamaica rum and cordials lie buried beneath the ruins of old Fort Mohave, on the Colorado river, a few miles below Hardyville, according to a statement from Peter R. Brady of Flagstaff, who was told the story by his father, who bore the same name.

According to the tradition, which many brave men will now doubtless attempt to verify, the fort was abandoned during the civil war, but before its abandonment all valuable were secreter by Brady, the elder, in an excavation under the main building, which was then set on fire.
The liquid treasure is still there, says Brady, unless per chance, it has long since been discovered by the Indians. Much interest has been created by the tale and a movement is on foot to organize an exploration party.
CAREER ENDS IN POVERTY
SAN JOSE, Nov. 1.—Philip Valentine, one time wealthy son of J. J. Valentine, late founder of Wells Fargo Express Co., found himself in the class of common laborer instead of heir to the Valentine fortune, when an auction on his remaining inheritance was held today by Sheriff Frank Barnett in Oakland.
The sale eliminated a career that led young Valentine to San Quentin prison. He now is working as a laborer on parole.
Receipts from the sale will go to Mrs. Mirian D. Boyer of San Jose, who lost her leg following a collision of her car and that of Valentine while the youth was intoxicated.
SMALL CHANGE FOR ENGLISH DICTATOR
ONDON, Nov. 1.—Those who have watched political events in Italy during the last two years, and have read what is now taking place in Spain, may be tempted to ask: Is there any chance that anything of a similar kind may ever occur in England? Shall we ever see here a strong man, an actual dictator, arising to put an end to political chaos and to secure efficiency?
It is to be noted that neither in Italy nor in Spain is the movement based on a desire to change the outward form of government, in neither country does it appear hostile to the hereditary monarchy or attempt to superseize it.
In both the aim seems to be to secure efficiency, honest, vigorous and firm government as opposed to anarchistic strife or feeble and corrupt administration, as well as to insure a decided and constant policy as opposed to the trimming and indecision involved in the attempts of weak men to remain in office by bargaining for the support of political parties or of groups.
Some will ask the question with detached mind as one simply of speculative interest, but not really imagining that anything of the kind is possible in England. Others would probably be glad to
