SWALLOWED TOYS
MEDIC'S MEAT
PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 30. — Removing the various objects which infants elect to jam down their throats from time to time, is becoming a specialty with Dr. Chevalier Jackson, of the Jefferson hospital here, to whom numerous cases have been brought from all over the country. Many a time the tiny victims (have raced against death, winning only by the few seconds it required to place them on the operating table.
Recently a safety pin was removed from the throat of a baby rushed from Concord, N.C. But Dr. Jackson's greatest achievement occurred the other day, when 9-year-old Anna McHale, of Ashland, Pa., was brought in with a toy goat of metal firmly lodged in her throat.
The time required did not even necessitate Anna's admission as a patient to the hospital. Dr. Jackson simply took a broncho-scope, an illuminated tube of his own invention, and with it located the stubborn goat. Forcops were then used inside the tube and the refractory toy taken out without an anaesthetic being administered.
According to the hospital records, Dr. Jackson has removed more than 1200 objects from children, including nails, pins, buttons and even whistles.

WINS BACK WIFE
CHICAGO, Oct. 30. Art and literature devotees have added another Chicagoan to their ranks. The new member is James C. Ellington, connected with the reality department of the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul railroad.
Some months ago, Mrs. Carol Ellington divorced him on cruelty grounds, charging that her husband was all wrapped up in his business and wouldn't allow her to read poetry or books or any periodicals of modernistic tendencies. But according to Phil R. Davis, her attorney, Ellington wooed his former wife persistently, and the couple were remarried, after "eloping" to Atlanta,

RECOVERS RINGS
SENT IN LAUNDRY
ST. PAUL, Oct. 30. — When Mrs. James E. Clancy, of this city, retired for the night recently, she was unable to go to sleep. She was positive there was something wrong somewhere. Suddenly she remembered that her three diamond rings, valued at $800, had been planned to a nightgown sent to the laundry.
The police were notified. At 2 a.m. a squad of bluecoats arrived at the laundry and, after several hours of searching, found the rings.
Thereupon Mrs. Clancy again retired and slept soundly.

But according to Phil R. Davis, her attorney, Ellington won his former wife persistently, and the couple were remarried, after "eloping" to Atlanta, Iowa.
Chicago's literati were set a trifle agog upon receipt of the news.
Ellington won his ex-wife the second time, according to Davis, by promising to foster her love for good literature, and to prove it he bought for her for a wedding gift a copy of Vincent Starrett's volume of sonnets, "Banners in the Dawn."
