REAL SURPRISE IN WELL ON EASTSIDE
A real surprise was occasioned by the bringing in of the W. R. Ramsey well on the Coffin property at Long Beach a few days ago. The Coffin well, it will be remembered, is located on the southeast slope. Territory in this section of the field has been scheduled from the beginning for small producers. The Ramsey well sprung a complete surprise by coming in a 3000-barrel well producing 26 gravity oil. The new wonder producer of the southeast section was drilled to 5002 feet. W. R. Ramsey is an Oklahoma oil operator who secured property at Long Beach soon after the Shell Co. brought in the discovery well of the Beach field.
The Petroleum Midway led the field at Long Beach last week for big wells. On the Harlow lease the Petroleum Midway brought in a 4,000 barrel well. Forty-eight hundred feet was drilled in order to show up just what a good well would do on the Harlow property. The big producer is making better than 26 gravity oil and bids fair to become one of the biggest and longest lived wells in the field. The Petroleum Midway saw the value of the northwest section of the field considerably in advance of most of the operators now located in that section of the field, and has brought in some splendid producers.
The famous Clock No. 1, the well scheduled to set a new world record for deep production, has to be content to go on at a depth of 5015 feet. Six thousand feet was the intended mark. Mechanical difficulties developed at 5975 and it was finally necessary to put the well on production at 5115 feet. At this depth Clock 1 is a modest producer at 1300 barrels. The oil is exceptionally good gravity, and is comparatively clean.
E. J. Miley is content to have No. 5 quit at 5169 and prove the flood control area of Long Beach dry territory. Miley-Mills No. 5 in its drilling to 5169 found nothing but the fastening watch crystals.
A simple and effective way to fasten a loose watch crystal in place is to remove it and place drops of first-class glue in several places on the grooved seat, says the November issue of Popular Science Monthly. Any surplus glue that squeezes out on the glass may be scraped off when dry.
SEN. LADD HAS CURE FOR MONEY FAMINE
WASHINGTON, Oct. 19.—A billion-dollar government bank for the lending of money to American farmers at 4 per cent interest.
Although it would revolutionize the American system, this is in effect the proposal advocated today by Senator Edwin F. Ladd, Rep., of North Dakota, for stabilizing agriculture. Ladd's plan is based on the government issuing millions of dollars in new U.S. treasury certificates—guaranteed by the gold and silver bullion in its vaults—and lending the new paper money to farmers through postal savings banks at 4 per cent interest.
The new greenbacks, Ladd declared, would give the farmer cheaper credit, easily accessible cash, and end a "money famine now existing in the west."
To prevent inflation, his plan would place a limit of $5,500,000,000 on all paper money to be circulated in the United States, which ultimately would force the retirement of all other paper money in favor of federal greenbacks.
The North Dakota senator announced he would introduce a bill in the next Congress to put his plan into operation. It is certain to meet vigorous opposition from financial institutions and perhaps from treasury officials.
A new "money fight" similar to the famous Bryan "16 to 1" controversy may be projected.
Ladd also issued a warning that the United States faces a domestic crisis similar to Germany's financial ruin because of the "debt enslavement of farmers." He declared a oldtime force Santa Fe Springs gave this week of some time form in the wayducers. The Amalgam took the palm for both weils, one coming and the other at 3000 shallower well of the No. 1, completed at 4 ing 34 gravity, clean on the Fulton property in that it proves the less it one of the choice for development in the Springs field, dallugg barrels, is one of this property has shown the fact that the Amalgam Co. still has a lot of property.
The Golay property Co. is holding its own initial production. Golay N ed at 4663 feet is doing reel. The oil is 34 gry well is flowing with reel and regularity.

Miley-Mills No. 5 in its drilling to 5169 found nothing but the meagerest showings and there was nothing to encourage any further drilling. No. 3-A now drilling at 4,400 will close the development of the extreme west section of the field for the Miley-Mills interests.
The Shell Co. of California added 4500 barrels of new production to its Long Beach output with the completion of two wells. At 5300 feet the Shell’s Nicholson No. 3 went on production a 2260 barrel well. Pickley No. 2, finished at 5241, is making 2300 barrels. Both wells are making a 26 gravity clean oil production. The completion of these two wells marks another triumph of Shell Co. success in the development of the deep sand at Long Beach, from which the future production of the field is to come.

All Nations Marching to Armageddon
But “Millions Now Living Will Never Die”—(Judge Jutherford)
THE WORLD faces a condition never before experienced. Fear has taken hold upon all classes of people because they see in a measure the things coming upon the earth. The nations are in distress and perplexity.
THE WAR did not make the world safe for democracy. The very foundations of civilization are now shaken by revolution, labor strikes, official lawlessness, profiteers, Bolshevism and anarchy. Both capital and labor are resorting to extreme measures. The common people have lost confidence in their leaders. The clergy have abandoned the Word of God and joined hands with big business and big politicians in an attempt to control the world, and these are opposed by radical forces.
EUROPE is completely bankrupt, with her restless host of unemployed and discontents hourly increasing. Belligerent or ganizations are rapidly numbering their men and taking account of their strength. All contending forces are hastening to the great battle of Armageddon. The disaster resulting is beyond the description of human words.
BUT let the people take heart. The Lord will cut short the trouble, bring order out of chaos, establish peace and right-cousness; and millions of people now living will become obedient to his order of righteousness and will live on the earth forever in peace and happiness.

OLDTIME FORM AT SANTA FE SPRINGS
Santa Fe Springs gave an exhibition this week of some of its old-time form in the way of big producers. The Amalgamated Oil Co. took the palm for big wells with two wells, one coming in at 4100 and the other at 2000 barrels. The shallower well of the two, Fulton No. 1, completed at 4610, is making 34 gravity, clean oil. Dallugge on the Fulton property is important in that it proves the lease and makes it one of the choice properties left for development in the Santa Fe Springs field, Ballaugh 4 at 3100 barrels, is one of the best wells this property has shown and reveals the fact that the Amalgamated Oil Co. still has a lot of oil on the property.
The Golay property of the Shell Co. is holding its own for substantial production. Golay No. 3 completed at 4663 feet is doing 4000 barrels. The oil is 34 gravity and the well is flowing with remarkable ease and regularity.
The Standard Oil Co.'s Weisel No. 5 is a nice well at 2000 barrels. The Weisel producer is making the field's usual 34 gravity clean oil. Development work in the Springs field is made interesting with the announcement of the Top Notch for the south side of the field. The Top Notch has decided to go to 5100 any well yet drilled along the south and make a more thorough test than line of the field. Operators will be interested in knowing that the Pacific States Oil Co. has arranged with the Cook Drilling Co. to go to 4700 feet before considering final abandonment. Drilling was stopped a few weeks ago at 4500. The Commercial Refining Co. will proceed with the drilling of its test well on the southwest side of the field regardless of the fact that all other operators have quit the field.
The daily output of the Springs field touched a low mark with an aggregate of only 255,000 this past week. This is the lowest output the field has made and production figures that the de-
STEWART AGENT FOR SUTTER BASIN LAND
J. E. Stewart, prominent real estate man of Anaheim, has accepted the Anaheim agency for Sutter Basin Co. lands in the Sacramento valley.
This 45,000-acre tract is located only 23 miles north of the state capitol, and is under extensive development now—all being under cultivation. Great crops of alfalfa, many kinds of fruits and vegetables, are raised and shipped to market, either by rail or Sacramento-river steamers. It will be a great dairy district.
Many new settlers are now going into Sutter county, which is famous as the great peach district of northern California, and is known as the home of Thompson seedless grapes.
The Sutter Basin Co. makes very favorable terms for real farmers and will also make crop leases on additional lands to purchasers in the tract.
30 DAYS IN JAIL
Joe Burns and Norman Lonegan were arraigned before Judge French on the charge of evading railroad fare, and Remedios Ramerez, charged with vagrancy. They were sentenced to 30 days each in the Orange county jail.

"FORBIDDEN TRAIL" AT UNITED THEATER
The United theater, tonight and tomorrow matinee and night, offers the latest Sunset production, "The Forbidden Trail," in which Jack Hoxle, known as the screen's greatest exponent of the real west, scores another great triumph.
Hoxle is offered in this production probably material far better suited to his individual characteristics than in any of his previous starring vehicles. As Jack Merriwell, Hoxle presents a unique portrayal of the young whole-hearted chap who goes west in a search for the slayer of his father, and who in his pursuits finds also Isobel, the girl of his heart and the supposed daughter of "Red Hawk." Dugan, the slayer notorious head of a bandit gang operating in that vicinity.
Az Isobel, Evelyn Nelson, who is seen in support of Hoxle, is extremely appealing, and her character arouses the utmost sympathy since she is forced by Dugan, whom she believes to be her father, to assist him and his men in many of their spectacular raids and crooked deals.
It is one of the greatest of out-of-door dramas, and guaranteed to hold your eyes to the screen and your hands to your seat arms from the first foot of film to the grand finale.
On Saturday matinee and night will be shown the second episode of "In Days of Daniel Boone," the greatest, most spectacular historical chapter play ever produced, in conjunction with the regular program.

HEAVY FINES BEING IMPOSED ON DRUNKS
With only half the month gone, Justice Leo Goepper, who is taking the place of City Recorder W. F. Heathman in Santa Ana while the latter is away, has collected $1600 in fines imposed on drunks, etc. It is getting to be the exceptional thing for no drunks or fellows with liquor in their possession to omit falling into an officer's hands daily.
Harold Morgan was fined $200 or given his choice of 100 days yesterday by Judge Goepper R. L. Loucke of City Engineer Knox's office had left his machine outside the City Hall, when he heard the engine start, ran down stairs and found Morgan aboard his car. The latter claimed the machine as his and then, to pacify Loucks, offered him a drink. The arrest followed. Morgan said a friend of his had just gone to get a good-sized supply of the stuff.
Thomas A. Kennedy of Orange was fined $200 Tuesday by Judge Goepper for possession. Kennedy peddles soda, etc., and was found with a bottle of whiskey on his hip on Santa Clara avenue.
DISTURBS SLEEP AS AUTO HITS INDIAN
LAKEPORT, Oct. 19—Luman Boggs, a local Indian, while sleeping was rudely awakened by a suffocating pressure. From his bed beneath the skies, he gazed upward into the underpinning of an automobile, which was in slow motion. The back wheels were followed by the front, and the astonished Indian managed to make a noise that sounded like an old-time warwhop.
Luman has filed suit against J. W. Male for $2225 damages alleged to be incident to his body being used as road material. He declares his collarbone and several ribs were broken and his personal pride considerably ruffled.
