THURSDAY, OCTOBER 18, 1923 LANDMARK MAKES WAY FOR PROGRESS Hammer and pick, with occasional exploding dynamite, are fast fleeing away the last of the old landmarks of the Anaheim business district, the old White Lily Bakery building, which has stood at West Center and Clementine-sts, for more than 50 years, according to old timers. John Casson, who is razing the building to make way for a large new three-story structure to be used for stores and apartments, says that until the last 15 years the building was used as asaloon, and since that time as a bakery. The building was erected by a pioneer named Menzel, who has been dead many years, and if it could talk a story of material progress in which Anaheim grew from a strangling desert village of dirty streets and plank sidewalks to its present place as the metropolis of northern Orange-co. Many bystanders viewed its demolition today, perhaps here and there in old timer with the hint of a tear at the remembrance of the times gone to never return.
