LOAN & MORTGAGE COMPANY FORMED
Orange county's newest business corporation, "The Guarantee Loan and Mortgage Co. of California," has opened offices at 312-13 Hill Building, East 4th street, Santa Ana. With an authorized capitalization of $500,000, it is reported that $65,000 has already been subscribed. This company gives promise of being of financial benefit, not only to its stockholders, but to the community at large, as the corporation is composed mainly of Orange county even of unquestioned business and financial standing, whose influence will go toward keeping local investors' money inside Orange county, and attracting outside capital to Orange county.
This company will not only deal in first mortgages, first mortgage bonds, real estate contracts, chattel loans, etc., but it will also enter the building field, financing and building homes, business blocks and apartments. This 'building and loan' plan offers a financial system which will be of more benefit to the wage earner and the salaried employee than any other class of financial institution devised, as its field of operations is local. Its results benefient, enriching the community, encouraging thrift, and fostering that most valuable asset of the nation, the "American home."
The official personnel of the Guarantee Loan and Mortgage Co. of California includes such well-known local men as E. J. Hartung of Anaheim, N. E. Phinney, H. M. Daley and Roy Wilson of Santa Ana, with an advisory board of Eugene Durfee, H. N. Thornton and F. W. Gillette, architects, and Leonard Evans, attorney. Through the connections and affiliations that these men have in Los Angeles and elsewhere, it is said that outside capital in excess of $200,000 is being arranged for building construction in Anaheim and Santa Ana alone since July 14, 1923, and this amount of money means a valuable asset to the people of Orange county and should soon mean an organization second to none in financial circles.

STEWART VISITS COPPER COUNTRY
James E. Stewart is wearing a broad smile today as a result of a business trip to Prescott, Arizona, the historic mining center of the United States.

There are many other large properties, too numerous to mention.
The Chamber of Commerce, at Prescott, is located on the ground floor of their handsome half million dollar court house and has the finest mining exhibit to be found in the United States. Mr. Stewart had the pleasure of visiting this Chamber and found the Assistant Secretary, Mr. Jet, a very fine fellow. He also met the County officials of Yavapai County, and says that when it comes to "Home town boosting" that Californians can sure take lessons, but he will admit they certainly have a reason.
Mr. Stewart paid a business visit to the Yaba Copper Company's mine, and spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Carroll. Mr Carroll is the president of the Yaba Copper Co., that will in a short time be as large if not larger than the United Verde mine; he saw a solid body of ore that runs over $280 a ton in gold, silver, lead and copper. This body of ore is 4500 feet long in a 27 foot wide vein.
This company has a modern and up to date camp with many cement buildings and one of the most complete outfits to be found. Their machinery is of the latest type, a large and powerful air compressor furnishes the power for drilling, an electric lighting plant furnishes the entire camp with light. This already famous mine is located only a twenty minute ride from the Southwest Metals Co. Smelter at Humboldt, where the ore is smelted not only for this mine but several other large mines close by. It was with great interest

BLAMES FREAK EGG ON RECENT ECLIPSE
BIRMINGHAM, Oct. 15.—An egg on which is moulded a perfect outline of a sunflower, laid on the day of the recent eclipse of the sun by a Rhode Island red hen, has created considerable speculation in this section. The hen is owned by Mrs. Kate Richards, of this city. Those who have seen the egg are undecided as coming in all kinds of craft that the to whether sunflower seed fed the local farm hand now refuses his native ale and finds it cheaper to drink the French spirit.
COGNAC SMUGGLED INTO ENGLAND NOW
LONDON, Oct. 15.—Britain has instituted a miniature rum-running business of its own.
Its location is the south coast of England, and the main commodity is French cognac. Before the war this used to cost about $1 per bottle in England, but its present price is now 25 shillings, or a little over $6. The increase is mainly due to revenue duty.
The country folk of England regard this as too much to pay and consequently they arrange to import it themselves without interference from revenue officers. There is no particular difficulty along this lonely coast, where the tall cliffs shelter numberless little coves, and the liquor arrives practically unmolested. In such quantities is the brand have seen the egg are undecided as coming in all kinds of craft that the to whether sunflower seed fed the local farm hand now refuses his native ale and finds it cheaper to drink the French spirit.
