LAIM THEY ALLED FARMHAND COLN, Neb., Oct. 12—Foling the confession, said to have made late yesterday, of Adolph Dust, father of Alby Vajgrt, the 30-year-old girl who testified at the owner's inquest that she alone was responsible for the murder of Antoine Lana, 5 County Attorney McKillip of Seward-co. Announced this morning that charges would be filed against the father, the mother and the girl. Up to the time of her father's confession, the girl stubbornly maintained that "I, alone, killed him because he got me in trouble," but her story failed to explain the lacerations and bruises about the head and body. She said Lana had betrayed her and attempted to kill her for telling her parents that she shot him. The father's confession narrates that early last Monday morning he saw his wife and daughter struggling with Lana, and that, rushing to the scene, he struck the farmhand with a two by four plank, knocked him unconscious and then clubbed him to a pulp. Then he shot the body with a revolver and a shot gun. DELIRIOUS, THROWS LIGHT ON MURDER LOS ANGELES, Oct. 12.—While detectives today grilled Leonard Rogers, alias L. J. Barton, of Chicago, self-asserted nationally known advertising specialist, following his alleged attempt at suicide in a downtown hotel today by slashing his wrists, authorities awaited word from Michigan state authorities that was expected to shed startling light on a notorious Michigan murder case. Taken to the receiving hospital, where Rogers is said to have only a slight chance for recovery, he became delirious and mumbled statements to the effect that three men now in prison for the Donbrowsky murder are innocent, the police say. In his mutterings Rogers indicated he held the key to the solution of the murder. Rogers refused to answer questions of his connection with the Michigan murder, the police say, and he is being held on suspicion of being a fugitive from justice, pending word from eastern authorities. SECRETARY WALLACE PEARS "TROUBLE" KANSAS CITY, Oct. 11.—Secretary of Agriculture Wallace, attending the international farm congress here today said he feared "widespread serious trouble" would result unless some relief were offered the farmer by the government. "If the present disparity between the prices of agricultural products and of other necessities continues," the secretary learned, "I fear widespread serious trouble will result—but not a revolution." CHICAGO MAYOR PAYS TAX PENALTIES CHICAGO, Oct. 12.—Mayor William E. Dever's name is on the list of owners of personal property in Chicago, who failed to file returns and thereby have been penalized by the imposition of an additional tax of 50 per cent on their total assessment, it has been learned. "I am already overtaxed far beyond what I should pay, but I am willing to pay," the mayor said when his attention was called to the matter. "It was not intentional, I assure you, but simply a bit of forgetfulness in the press of business during my campaign." 3 DIE FROM SHIP BOILER EXPLOSION PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 12.—Wife three men dead and several badly sealded from a boiler explosion, the British steamer Daghild is nearing this port today. Another very encouraging fact is that the standard has found the good showings 260 feet higher up than the Mid-way-Northern shut off. Just how far the Torrance-Lomita Oil field goes east is now a matter of conjecture, and no one who has been following the trend of development is willing to say what the limits of the field are going to be. The Torrance oil producer for the week was bought in by the Chanslor-Canfield Midway. Torrance No. 7 completed at 3700 feet, is doing 1100 barrels of 28 gravity oil. The C. C. M.D. has wells drilling from Nos. 50 to 25, and is one of the busiest companies in the field drilling off wells. Encouraged by its wonderful success with its first well, the Fortuna Oil Co. oil drill two more, "Tux" Edens or Orange Co. Drilling Co. fame making good at Torrance, and we expect to see his Fortuna Oil Co. one of the leading producers of the field. An Compton oil operators are hoping for the immediate success of the Julian Petroleum's Pico twell. This well will be of great value in determining the trend of the field, and until it or some other one is completed, the Compton field cannot be "doped" to advantage. At 4064 the Julian well met with trouble in the ten-inch casing string, and until this is overcome the progress of the well will be delayed. HUSBAND MUST PAY ON JOINT INCOME Every married couple in California is affected by a ruling from Commissioner of Internal Revenue Blair which holds that the income from community property in California is not divisible under the statutes of California, either before or after the recent amendments to the California state laws relative to community property. The ruling which was made upon request of Collector Rex Goodcell was received yesterday and means that in the face of the amendments to the civil code of California, enacted last spring, the internal revenue bureau holds that for income tax purposes income from community property belongs to the husband and that the husband must file a return covering the entire income from property owned jointly by husband and wife. MORE TAX MONEY The Anaheim school district has been assessed this year $139,401 against $118,923 last and the Fullerton school district $242,000 against $216,000, according to figures of W. C. Jerome, county auditor. Because of the higher assessed valuation approximately $9,000-000, the increased taxes come as no surprise. The county as a whole will pay $19,000 more this year than last, or $5,502. TO ARIZONA ON BUSINESS James E. Stewart, Colonel Dudley E. M. Chalmers and Ralph McFadden are planning to leave this evening over the Santa Fe for Jerome, Arizona, where they will spend several days on business.
