AMAL. BRINGS IN SANTA FE GUSHER At Santa Fe Springs the feature of the field this week is the big well put on production by the Amalgamated completed No. 3 at 4669 and get a 4200 barrel well the biggest thing for some weeks in the Springs field. The big well is producing that 35 gravity "pure quill" product that has made Santa Fe Springs the greatest high gravity oil producing field in the world. A 4000-barrel well was completed by the Union Oil Co. on the Howard property that is worthy of some mention. The big well was completed at 4700 feet and is making 34.5 gravity off. The Howard property is proving to be one of the Union's best and most substantial properties at the Springs. The General Petroleum Corp. added a couple thousand barrels of new production to the field with the completion of Santa Fe 13 and Jalk 4. The Santa Fe well was finished at 4621 and the Jalk producer at 4642. Both wells are doing the usual high gravity product. Santa Fe Springs this past week witnessed a number of important changes. The Central Oil Co. has decided that it would be useless to spend any more money on its north line well Los Nietos No. 1 and is abandoning at 4925. The Central made a strong effort to get an oil well and quits the field with that satisfaction. The B. G. C. Oil Syndicate has reached a depth of over 4800 feet and it seems that there has not been any too much encouragement. The Fisher-Gregg Oil Syndicate has passed the 4900 foot mark and the outlook is not encouraging. The Grunwell Oil Corp. is another of the concerns that tried and failed to extend the north line of Santa Fe Springs. The Grunwell stopped at 4731 feet. The well was drilled by the Rodgers-Edwards Drilling Company and represents some fast time for a difficult field. The well was spudded in April 19th and completed Sept. 7th. During the elapsed time CLAIM VERSAILLES TREATY NULLIFIED MUNICH, Sept. 27.—Bavaria has proclaimed the Versailles treaty null and void. The nationalist leaders are openly denouncing the Berlin government for surrendering to France. 7th. During the elapsed time five strings of pipe were set, including an oil string. The well showed a little oil but not enough to make it a commercial producer by any means. Cyrus W. Bell an old time Standard Oil head entered the contracting game at Santa Fe Springs and Torrance a few months ago. At Torrance Mr. Bell has had wonderful success. At the Springs luck was played against him some on the Howland-Hopkins wells, but a change has come and the veteran oil man has two wells underway to completion now. Howlands-Hopkins No. 1 at 4500 has but 200 feet more to get into the Mayer sand, and No. 2 at 4350 will be there soon. A 4000-barrel well rewarded the Shell Co. in the completion of Clusher No. 4. The Slusher gusher shows 4668 feet of hole and the well is making $4 gravity oil. The Shell Company had a little difficulty in development underway on the Slusher TREATY NULLIFIED MUNICH, Sept. 27.—Bavaria has proclaimed the Versailles treaty null and void. The nationalist leaders are openly denouncing the Berlin government for surrendering to France. General Ludendorff, former chief of staff to Von Hinderburg, is credited with being partly responsible for the nationalist coup. He is now a resident of Bavaria. The civil rights of all Bavarian citizens has been suspended. The Bavarian leaders deny any idea of despotism, calling their movement a "constitutional dictatorship." CHARGE DISCRIMINATION Provisions of the State game law creating so-called open and closed districts are unconstitutional, Justice J. Walter Hamby ruled in Los Angeles yesterday. The judge upheld the demurrers of H. G. Seeber and Al John Cook, who were arrested in Newhall early this month for having venison in their possession. A Presno hunter can take his meat home, while an Angeleno can be arrested for doing so, and this is discriminatory, according to Judge Hamby. A free people is one that knows no tyranny, except that provided by its own laws. Plain Dealer Want-ads bring results property but seems to be making up for lost time now. FARM CONFERENCE WASHINGTON, Sept. 27.—The first of a series of important conferences which President Coolidge plans with farm leaders all over the country of formulate measures for the betterment of the agricultural industry was held at the White House today. A delegation of farmers and bankers from the northwest states, where the most insistent demands have been made for some immediate agrarian relief, urged the call of a special session of congress. They asked particularly for legislation reviving the United States grain corporation, with an appropriation of $50,000,000 to take over and distribute the entire wheat crop. This corporation would tend to stabilize the grain market, President Coolidge was told. The recommendations, also made by Secretary of Agriculture Wallace to congress to lower freight rates on wheat and flour for export and to increase the tariff on wheat were approved and their adoption was urged by the delegation. Mr. Coolidge was informed that "thousands of foreclosures and bankruptcies among farmers are Imminent." TELLS BIG SAVING IN OCEAN FREIGHT What the citrus fruit section of Orange-co. would gain by shipping by boat to New York was explained last night at the meeting in Olive of the A. C. of C. by F. F. Dudley and A. E. Hammond of the California-New York Steamship Co. Once Orange-co harbor is improved, part of the huge volume of oranges sent by rail can be diverted, according to Dudley. It was the monthly dinner served at Olive Hall by the ladies. Dr. J. D. Thomas of Olive, the president, presided. Orange-co. would have received a state agricultural college branch, if Dudley's suggestion had been adopted, he told his hearers.
