VALUE OF LUNCHEON CLUBS DISCUSSED
The value of luncheon clubs to a community's civic well being was discussed at some length before local Kiwaniana at their weekly luncheon yesterday in the American Legion headquarters by Bill Brown, district governor of the Calif.-Nev. district. In the course of his remarks Brown made the somewhat startling statement that more than 50 per cent of the citizens eligible to vote in the United States don't vote.
Brown advocated resumption of the three-minute talks of world war times in order to instruct people on the governmental issues of the day.
The responsibility to awaken civic interest and "do something," not just enjoy themselves at luncheon, as the district governor put it, pertained not only to Kiwanians, but to all such clubs alike.
The project of formation of new parks, support of the Chamber of Commerce, etc., all were up to the luncheon club, he said.
Henry Adams and Dave Jessurun, who recently visited the La Hiaora club, told how the Chamber of Commerce there had boosted its membership from 85 to 392, largely by aid of the local Kiwanis club. The Anaheim club took out a membership to show its support.
Frank Edmiston gave one of his humorous talks in autobiographic vein. He said he had taken a membership in the Presbyterian church, because there had been no Methodist church there, but hoped he had lived that down by this time. "His first wife," he said had been able to live with him ever since, "much to his surprise."

of the local Kiwanis club. The Anaheim club took out a membership to how its support.
Frank Edmiston gave one of his humorous talks in autobiographic voice. He said he had taken a membership in the Presbyterian church, because there had been no Methodist church there, but hoped he had lived that down by this time. "His first wife," he said had been able to live with him ever since, "much to his surprise."
The "On to Fresno Committee," whose purpose is to find out who are going to the State convention at Freno Nov. 16-17, let it be known at luncheon that every Kiwanian was to be approached on the subject.
The crowd present was excellent, including many out of town Kiwanians.
Tomorrow the club will meet in a body at the City Hall to go to St. Ann's Inn, Santa Ana, and attend the Kiwanis meeting there.
