GOODYEAR PRIZE IS WON BY PORTLAND
Smashing all previous selling and shipping records, the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. of Calif., consisting of El Paso, Los Angeles, Freanb, San Francisco, Sacramento, Butte, Denver, Salt Lake City, Portland, Seattle and Spokane, were matched against each other on one quota basis, and when August 31 arrived, it was found that deliveries to dealers of Goodyear Western made tires in these branches were greater than any previous month in the history of the company.
General Manager A.F. Osterloh set up a prize of a loving cup and a trip to Los Angeles, for the branch that made the best record, and the reward goes to the Portland branch who succeeded in leading the other branches by a small margin at the finish.
The men of the Portland branch will come to Los Angeles in a body the latter part of October.

Record of Durant Sales Unparalleled
Attention is called by the officials of the Durant factory at Oakland to the fact that though it is only two years since the first car of this line was shown to the public, and it is less than two years since the first car was sold, more than 75,000 Durant automobiles have been built and delivered in this short period of time.
This achievement they claim, is without parallel in the automotive field. No other car in the Durant price class has ever scored such an immediate and complete success. No other car selling at any price, except one other Durant product, has ever approached this record for sales in its first two years. The reason for this success of the Durant, according to the officials of the company, is due to the fact that the wave of the buying public greeted its appearance as a product fundamentally sound in every detail and built as W.C. Durant has always wanted every automobile built under his jurisdiction. The Durant Motor Company states that this car has merely approached the threshold of its succeeds and it is expected months that even popular clamor for be seen.

More Grip on the Road!
Buick Four-wheel Brakes
Buick four-wheel brakes give all 1924 Buick cars twice the amount of grip on the road, thereby doubling their braking efficiency. It is the friction or grip of the tire on the road surface that brakes or slows down the car.
Buick four-wheel brakes not only provide a greater power to stop in case of emergency but, because of this four-wheel road grip, reduce skidding dangers to a minimum.
In turning, Buick four-wheel brake construction automatically releases whichever is the outside or guiding front wheel so it is instantly responsive to the steering mechanism.
Buick four-wheel brake construction distributes braking friction over four drums and four wheels. This reduces wear on brake linings and tires, thereby assuring their longer life and greater efficiency, with fewer adjustments.
Buick four-wheel brakes [on all models] together with countless other distinctive features of the 1924 cars further establish Buick as the Standard of Comparison.

PREFERS DODGE CAR
If the Dodge were not all it is represented to be, the Los Angeles police department wouldn't have added 50 of the cars to its equipment Charley Mann, declared. The latest order makes 127 cars the past year which have been purchased by the department.
Durability, speed, case of handling ability to make quick stops and good looks, due to the fine enamel finish make the cars the ideal one for hard constant service. Incidentally the trade in value is good, says Mann.
The new models, while representing conservative changes, accentuate the qualities named. The stream line effect of the body also enhances the car's appearance and various added conveniences make it more serviceable.

NUMBER OF CARS MADE
Only 175 makes of car now are on the market, compared with 250 at one time, and in another year still fewer makes will be seen, says F. M. Medbery, of the local Hudson and Essex agency. Power makes of car, larger production and standardization are coming, says Medbery. The question is of the survival of the fittest. People are done with paying high prices for cars.
Sales here are excellent, as usual, says Medbery.
OAKLAND FACTORY OUTPUT INCREASED
Factory alterations which have resulted in practically rebuilding the entire interior of the plant, installation of new systems and new machinery which have involved an outlay of approximately $2,000,000 are just being completed at the Oakland Motor Car Co.'s plant.
When finished the plant will have a capacity of 500 cars daily, more than twice its previous capacity.
The fundamental improvement is the establishment of a conveyor system throughout, eliminating the costly and delaying shifts, changes, back trucks and handling that were necessary as the factory was previously arranged.
By installation of almost entire new designs of tools and a conveyor system, it has been possible to establish a plant with a capacity of 500 motors daily, and in the same building install a complete axel plant taking the forged axle, finishing and assembling it and turning out enough for a production of 500 cars daily.
