ANAHEIM ENGINEER WRITES ABOUT GAS
In an article on "Notes On the Natural Gas Situation," T. F. Morgan, consulting natural gas engineer of Anaheim, whose office is in Los Angeles, declares that the cutting of oil production is saving large quantities of gas that otherwise would go to waste. The article is in the September number of The Mining and Oil Bulletin.
The absorption process of recovery, "one of the important outgrowths of the oil industry," says Morgan, "has attained considerable proportions in the Santa Fe Springs field."
But the production of gas from the Meyer sand at the Springs has been so excessive that all of the absorption plants are heavily overloaded. "Plants designed for 10,000,000 cubic feet of gas are now treating 20,000,000, and in some cases overloading has been carried to a still greater extent."
The enormous waste of gas has been largely done away with by the restriction in oil production, declares Morgan, while the ratio of gas to oil has also increased. "It appears evident that gas production is rapidly approaching its peak, for a considerable reduction of gas in both pressure and volume has been noted on some of the outlying properties of the field.
"This can be attributed, in part, to restriction in oil production, but in a few instances the decline has been too great to warrant such an assumption. One direct result of the restriction of output of oil has been the lowering of the gasoline content of the natural gas, a condition furthered by high trap pressures, with a subsequent increase in oil gravities.
"The ratio of production of gas to oil has been much larger from the Meyer sand than that from the upper sands; the ratio of the Meyer being approximately twice that of the Bell. This difference is especially true of the wells on or near the top of the structure where, in some instances, the ratio approximates 3000 feet of gas to one barrel of oil. A number of these wells are making from 15,000,000 to 19,000,000 feet."
BRITTANY'S MAIDS KNOW USE OF CREAM
PARIS, Sept. 17.—In lovely Brittany, the country of pretty white caps and fine cooking, every fresh-looking red-faced Bretonne knows how to prepare a delicious cream which accompanies many good dishes.
Skim the cream from a quart of yesterday's milk and keep it in a cool place for three days. Put it into an earthen bowl and add a pint of fresh cream of the day. Beat together with a little wooden whip. As the foam forms skim off and put into another bowl. Continue to beat as long as there is any liquid cream.
Sweetened with powdered sugar, this cream is exquisite served with fresh wild strawberries or red raspberries. The Bretonne also uses it for her famous large pancakes.
PASADENA MAN BUYS CAFE IN ANAHEIM
F. S. Crozier, who opened the La Palina cafe at 224 E. Center street about a year ago, has sold out to L. G. Baker, manager of McCoy's cafeteria at Pasadena for three years.
Mr. Baker will continue the same popular policies, specializing in pastries. Luncheon will be served from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and dinner from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., with special dinner on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Witham will be in charge of dinner work and pastries.
NEW COMPANY TO REBUILD MOSCOW
MOSCOW, Sept. 17.—The eventual rebuilding of Moscow has been brot a step nearer by the formation of an Anglo-Russian company with a million-dollar capital for the purpose of conducting building operations on a large scale.
Most of the capital has been subscribed by Americans and Britishers, and it is intended that American and British labor shall be solely employed.
The rebuilding programme includes the reconstruction of the great Korch Theatre in the center of the city.
A number of these wells are making from 15,000,000 to 19,000,000 cubic feet of gas daily, with a still greater number averaging around 10,000,000.
"There are now twenty plants in operation, with three under construction. Their combined capacities account for approximately 75 per cent of the total production of gas in the field. The decline from peak production of gas will probably take place rapidly and the settled production should be well taken care of.
"It is interesting to note that dry gas transported to the surrounding counties amounts to a very considerable figure, there being five large compressor stations in operation, two under construction, and large quantities of gas are being marketed under ordinary rock pressure. This notwithstanding the fact that the gas companies are forced to compete with low-priced fuel oils in industrial sales and a low domestic consumption at this season."
