QUIZ KIWANIANS ON CONSTITUTION Acceptance of an invitation to be guests with their ladies of the Rotary club and its ladies next Monday at the Elks' clubhouse and hear Congressman Phil Swing, reports of the trip to San Diego to view the eclipse, and plans to observe Constitution Week next week were the features of today's luncheon of Kiwanians in the American Legion headquarters. The Rotarian invitation came from Secretary Thomas H. Walker who asked that the Kiwanians let Secretary Harry I. Horn know if they were going to attend, so that Rotary would know how many guests they expect. President A. B. McCord announced that he would present the following list of questions to be answered: 1. Repeat the preamble to the constitution. 2. Name the three departments of the national government. 3. Who constitute the executive department of the government? 4. Explain the legislative department and tell how members are elected. 5. Tell about the judicial department and its importance in the government. 6. Tell how the president is elected and the line of succession in case of his death. 7. Explain how the first ten amendments to the constitution came to be adopted. 8. Name four things which the constitution says Congress shall have power to do and four things which it shall not have power to do. 9. What should be the duty of a good citizen in the matter of obeying and upholding the constitution? 10. Explain the circumstances under which the constitution was adopted. In addition, McCord will ask who is the vice-president now. The week is in observance of the signing of the constitution. Roscoe Young, chairman of the club activities committee, was chairman of the day and had charge of the meeting when McCord was out of the chair. Young was one of 27 who BOARD WON'T BUY COUNTY FAIR SITE Supervisors today voted down a motion of Col. S. H. Finley that the board declare its intention to purchase 50 acres of land for a county fair site obtained by the Santa Ana C. of C. Motorcycle Officer H. S. The district would be known as Waterwork District No. 2. BATHER DIES ON WAY TO HOSPITAL The body of Mrs. L. H. Sloan, 50, who died Sunday from a heart attack, while enroute to the Fullerton hospital, has been taken to Santa Monica where funeral arrangements have been made. Mrs. Sloan who had been visiting with Mr. and Mrs. F. Prudhaunt of Fullerton was stricken while in the water at Anaheim Landing, where she had gone bathing. ELKS WILL DISCUSS CONVENTION PLANS The state convention at Eureka, Sept. 19-22 will be one of the principal topics of discussion of the local lodge of Elks at their regular meeting tomorrow evening. The 19 delegates to the big annual convention have been named, and it has been decided to make a strong effort to capture the state base-ball championship. The local team is Southern California champion. The state golf and state bowling championships also will be decided but no teams will be entered from Anaheim. At the meeting on Sept. 26 there will be an initiation and probably reports of the convention. The lodge has just completed the work of mounting a handsome set of elk's horns and placing them in front of the fountain facing North Los Angeles street. The horns were bronzed and set in a heavy cement block to keep them in place. B. P. O. The West Henshaw will load at Puget Sound and the Dewey at Columbia River ports. Doe and daughter Myrtle and son Wm. Jr., have returned from their vacation spent at Long Beach. Mrs. M. E. Kaufman and Miss Nellie Kaufman are enjoying a visit with Santa Ana friends. They will remain about a week. Mr. A. P. Yerlington of the First National bank is having a two weeks vacation. Miss Olive Gale is helping out during his absence. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Myers have moved to Hermosa Beach in order that Mr. Myers might be nearer his work. During their stay they made many friends who regret their moving. Mr. L. D. Pike of Fullerton was a Yorba Linda visitor on Saturday. On Saturday evening several people from here motored to Long Beach where they spent a jolly evening. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Nixon and TOKIO MAKES PLANS FOR GREAT SEAPORT HONOLULU, Sept. 11.—Nippa Jr., a local Japanese language newspaper today received a cable from Tokio stating that plans had been made for the reconstruction of Tokio making it one of the foremost seaport cities in the world. Tentative formulation of the plans which started today, call for the inclusion of the old section of Yokohama. It was pointed out, the dispatch said, that the violent changes in the Yokohama harbor bottom would require the expenditure of such a large sum to dredge and remove debris, whereas the same sum could be appropriated for reconstruction of the greatest Far Eastern seaport. OFFICIAL DISPATCH SAYS 110,000 DEAD WASHINGTON, Sept. 11.—The casualties in the Japanese earthquake disaster were placed at well over 150,000 in an official government dispatch to the Japanese embassy from Tokio tonight. The identified dead in Yokohama now total 110,000, while the bodies of 60,000 persons who were killed in Tokio have been incinerated. BEEF CO EXPANDS A certificate of the creation of a bonded indebtedness of $100,000, made on July 19, was filed today by the Anzheim Beef Co. The funds were designed to acquire, complete and equip various new markets and to provide added working capital. The company has been steadily increasing the number of its markets the past year. USED PITCHFORKS George Pacheco, a Mexican with plenty of Indian blood in his veins, will be given an opportunity this afternoon to tell Justice J. B. Cox why he smote Nick Gonzales twice over the head with a pitchfork on the Irvine ranch Saturday. The two work for Calvin Lambert, who is in charge of the work of threshing the bean crop, and Gonzales was knocked down twice, according to deputy sheriffs, the bones of one hand broken and his head bruised. They will spend some time in Syracuse, New York and on the return trip will visit relatives and friends in Kansas City and Dallas, Tex. They plan to return about the middle of December. Mr. A. W. Miller is leaving tonight for the east. He will visit at Chicago and Washington and at Minneapolis. He will join Mrs. Miller who left here several weeks ago. They will return in about three weeks. Mr. and Mrs. L. F. Fretwell of Fullerton are the parents of a son born this morning at the Fullerton hospital. APPROVE BRIDGES OVER FRISCO BAY WASHINGTON, Sept. 11.—Secretary of War Weeks today approved the construction of two traffic bridges over the southern extremity of San Francisco Bay. The two projects which lie considerably south of the city limits are to be constructed, one by the Webb Construction Company and one by a contractor named Harrington. Authorization of the construction of the Goat Island bridge still is under consideration, it was stated at the war department.
