FRANKLIN SEDAN
OUTPUT UP 100 P. C.
More than twice as many sedans were produced by the Franklin Automobile Company during the first seven months of this year as were turned out by Franklin during the corresponding period of 1922. In fact, the number of sedans produced in the Franklin plant during the period beginning January 4 and ending July 31 showed a 9 per-cent increase over Franklin sedan production for the entire year of 1922. Orders on dealers' books at end of July showed 43 per cent for sedans says a statement receded by the Bob White Co., from the factory.
Sixty nine per cent or orders that were placed with Franklin dealers during July—Franklin's Twenty-six sales anniversary month—was repeat business, according to E. S. Ackerman sales manager of the Franklin Automobile Company. "The fast that practically seven of every ten orders were received from persons already Franklin owners is typical of the high favor accorded to our latest model, the Series 10," states Mr. Ackerman, "and at the same time strongly evidences the loyalty of Franklin owners generally throughout the country. Among those who bought during the month were owners who had been driving Frinklins since 1904."

MISUNDERSTANDING COSTS HIM DEARLY
MADISON, Wis., Sept. 8.—When a stranger entered the garage operated here by F. C. Kilscheur and asked whether he could clean up the proprietor took it for granted, he told the police, that the stranger meant a soiled face.
The stranger, however, obviously had notions of his own. He not only washed his face but removed the wallet containing a considerable sum in cash and other articles of value from the garageman's trousers left hanging on the wall of the washroom.
WILLS-OVERLAND IN TAXI BUSINESS
Willys-Overland is now specializing in the production of Willys-Knight taxicabs. An exclusive force of engineers and saloemen is devoting its whole time to the manufacture and sale of this specialized product of the great Toledo plant.
For a long time the Willys-Overland Company investigated the taxicab field, with eyes open, for the smaller details that would assist it in turning out a cab that would enable the owner to operate at a minimum of comfort to his passengers. The Willys-Overland Company realized that the taxicab represents the stock of mileage that has to be sold at a profit and the chances of success or failure rest absolutely on the difference between what the miles cost the operator, plus labor in delivering them and the money paid by the public in return for the service rendered.
Studebaker production in August was 15,700 cars, a new record. For the eight months the output was over 110,000 against approximately 76,000 in August, 1922.

NEW WILLARD RADIO BATTERY IS OFFERED
Demand of radio operators for a smaller and less expensive "B" storage battery have been met by the Willard Storage Battery Co., of Cleveland, Ohio.
This company has introduced to the market through its service stations a new 24 volt "B" battery. It has a little over half the capacity of the larger Willard "B" battery. It is rechargeable and, besides, is claimed to have greater capacity on a single charge than the larger type of dry "B" batteries.
Radio fans who have overhauled their sets in quest for the cause of the "noises" only to find it finally in the slowly polarizing dry coils they were using on the plate circuit will welcome this quiet, inexpensive little "B" battery.
The Famous Willard Threaded Rubber insulation is used between plates built of exceptional thickness for steady voltage and long service. The particular construction of this battery makes recharging necessary only at long intervals.
All possibility of external leakage so prevalent in most storage "B" batteries has been eliminated by the use of an air gap around each of the 12 cells.
It is especially built to give very satisfactory service on any kind of receiving set, and is of ample capacity for use on sets employing loud speaking devices where higher plate current is necessary.
Higher efficiency in the working of radio outfits will result fro the use of this battery, it is claimed, on there is practically no internal resistance, no "noises" it has steady high voltage characteristics and is steady in operation.

New Ford Models Are Here; Hood Is Changed
Introduction of a higher radiator, bringing new and improved body lines to all types of Ford cars, is announced by the Ford Motor co.
The changes have just gone into effect and the various types are now in production.
The new radiator sets an inch and a half higher than the former and has an apron at the bottom which joins a similar apron affect on the fender on either side, giving a highly finished appearance to the front of the car. The larger radiator also increases cooling efficiency.
Most conspicuous among the new types is the Ford coupe which is of entirely new body design and construction, resulting in a more trim exterior appearance, more comfortable seating arrangement and a great or luggage carrying capacity.
From the dash there is a graceful sweep in the cowl to the radiator, bringing a pleasing effect to the front. The doors are wide and open forward making access and exit easy. They are heavily framed for rigidity and strength. The compartment at the rear has been enlarged to afford increased carrying capacity. The gasoline tank is under the seat, with divided cushions to afford easy filling of the tank from the right side, making it unnecessary for the driver to leave his seat. Ventilator in the cowl and a visor over the windshield add more to the attractiveness of the car. A new rear fender of more sturdy character also is a feature.
Interior fittings are of choice materials and the arrangement of the deeply cushioned seat has been affected so that at the rear there is a small recess shelf for carrying parcels. The rear vision window is much larger and oblong in shape. Door windows have been equipped with revolving type window regulators door locks are provided. Side windows are equipped with the lever type window lifters.
"ELECTRIC PILOT' MAY ELIMINATE PERIL
LONDON, Sept. $—A new device—virtually an electric pilot—is being tested by British airmen. Great hopes are entertained that it will do away with the fog peril to air pilots.
The device consists of an electric cable which is laid slightly beneath the ground, and a set of search coils and an instrument which acts as a stering and height indicator is fixed to the aeroplane.
By this means the pilot is able to locate the track while in the air, and by watching the indications of height he is able to land, although the ground may be invisible.

Marked, too, is the improvement in the Four Door Sedan. Highly popular since its introduction a year ago because of its low, graceful lines, the car now presents even much better lines and a sturdier appearance.
This has been brought about by the installation of an entirely new cowl, with a graceful sweep from the dash, blending into the larger hood and radiator. The change also affords an increase in log room for occupants of the front seat.
In the open type, the Touring car and Runabout, the cowl has been enlarged and flows in a graceful curve to the higher hood.
The result brings a most pleasing effect to the exterior appearance of both types. The improvement in the touring car, which came when the one man top and slanting windshield were introduced, is greatly enhanced by the larger radiator, the car appearing lower and more attractive than ever. The effect on the roadster is likewise most appealing, giving it a more rugged and sturdy appearance.
The new radiator is also extended to the Ford truck chassis, affording improved appearance and better cooling to delivery services.
These new Ford types and the generally recognized performance ability of the Ford under all motoring conditions, promise to bring a greater demand than ever before as the public becomes more fully acquainted with the higher standards and greater value which have been incorporated. No changes are contemplated in the prices.
