MORE SURPRISES AT SANTA FE SPRINGS Santa Fe Springs, the wonder high gravity oil field of the world, continues to furnish surprises and big wells in spite of all the talk that the field is going to water and will be short lived. Probably the most interesting development of the Springs field took place a few days ago, one that upsets the geological dope or at least proves an exception when a down structure well came in larger than a well higher on the structure. The Amalgamated Oil Co. completed on the Clark property well No. 2 at 4675 doing 3965 barrels. No. 1 Clark was finished at 4686 and is making 3400 barrels. No. 2 the bigger well is further down on the structure. Generally the well further up on the structure protrudes the larger producer. The Wilshire Oil Company, its associated companies and the Machris Brothers are making good with their operations at Santa Fe Springs. The organization during the past month has brought in some of the fields best producers. The Ambassador Oil Company affiliated with the Wilshire Oil Company completed a 3000 barrel well on the Baker lease. The new well is flowing 33.5 gravity, clean oil. On the Frazier property the Wilshire Oil Company completed a 4500 barrel well at 4662. This big well one of the banner wells of the Springs field is making close to 35 gravity. With the quitting of the Daly Oil Syndicate at 5005 feet another good attempt to get production on the north line of the field has come to an end. The Daly seemed to think that the oil would be there and that it would find it, and kept on drill well No. 2 of the Standard Oil Company increases as drilling goes below the 7000 foot mark. From the standpoint of rotary drilling, the study of deep zone geology the well will be of tremendous value should it not prove an oil producer. The 4 inch drilling string is the longest of its kind ever run before in the history of rotary drilling and marks an achievement. The formation below the 7000 foot mark is running in sandy brown shale and carries sea shells. The greatest producer of the Springs field for the month just closed was brought in by the General Petroleum Corp. on the Santa Fe's property, well No. 77A. The big well was completed at 4700 feet even and is flowing 5100 barrels flat. The production is straight 35 gravity, and I was clean as a whistle. The bringing in of 77A marks another success of the General Petroleum's splendid field organization headed by Frank Banks. "Mike" Burrows, recognized as the greatest production genius of the oil industry today puts the finishing touches onto the General Petroleum's Springs gushers. In a few days the Luneta Oil Co. will be testing out its 5068 foot well in the southeast section of the Springs field. This well is the lingering hope of the southeast section and upon its outcome much development hinges. At 4609 the first oil sand of any consequence was struck. From 4609 to 5000 the formation has been running in sandy shale showing oil and gas at intervals. It is believed the Luneta well make at least a small well. The Russell Petroleum Co. got a 1000 barrel with the completion of No. 2 at 4600 feet. The well is making 34:6 gravity oil. The Russell Petroleum Company's No. 3 is...
