EARLY DAY JUSTICE IN "WOLF TRACKS" In these days of thorny investigation, justice in careful in sifting the evidence against its accused members of society. But in the days of the old west, when the law was still weak, justice was apt to be of a hot, primitive brain and many an innocent man was doomed by a net of circumstantial evidence. No more complete or logical example of the danger and injustice of such evidence has ever been shown than in the episode in "Wolf Tracks" where Jack Hastings is so entangled in a maze of circumstantial evidence that he is not only wrongly accused of a crime, but is actually forced to accept the real criminals' identity and play his part, while he, with all the proof of re-rectability, is able to move freely in the accomplishment of his criminal ends. "Wolf Tracks" with Jack Hoxie in the stellar role of John Hastings, which will be shown at the United Theater Friday and Saturday, is based on just such a case and is carried out to a logical and more than unusually thrilling climax. A portion of the cast is now being directed by Montgomery Lynch, assisted by Maestro William Tyroler and Hugo Kirchhofer, in the auditorium and gymnasium of the University of So Calif. More than 3000 additional characters are needed to swell the chorus and pageant to its quota of 7000. There will be 4000 voices in the chorus, of which 2000 already have been secured. The play will be held on the largest stage in the world, one having a prosenium arch 90 feet high, and a width of 150 feet. One may best conceive the enormous size of this stage by visualizing the climax, "The March of the Nations," in which the entire cast of 7000 persons is to appear on the stage at once and kneel before a great illuminated cross singing the "Halleluja" chorus from Handel's "Messiah." This stage will cost in excess of $20,000 to construct and will require seven carloads of scenery, valued at $265,060, which is being rented from an Eastern Wayfarer Society. Huge tents will be erected in which to store much of the scenery and to be used as dressing rooms for the great cast. Lights used in one performance of "The Wayfarer" will require enough electricity to light a city of 60,000 inhabitants, it is said. Twelve big ship searchlights, the most powerful in the world, will be used as spots. B. BANKER BUYS MODJESKA'S HOME Chas. S. Mann, of Los Angeles, announced today he had sold the well known Modjeska Home in the "Forest of Arden" in Orange-co, comprising the original home designed by Stanford White and about four acres of highly improved grounds surrounding it. This was for 25 years the home of Madame Helena Modjeska, the famous Shakesperian actress. This property has been sold to Mr. C. J. Walker, president of the Farmers and Merchants Bank of Long Beach, one of the largest financial institutions in that city. Mr. Walker was one of the original syndicate which purchased this property from Madame Modjeska in 1908, and which syndicate, a few years later, sold it to the present owners, the Modjeska Ranch Co. For some time this house has been open in a semi-public way and has been vistied by a large number of people. Mr. Walker's plains for the property, as now contemplated, are for the better preservation and up-keep of the place, which has so much of present and historic interest and is one of the beauty spots of So.
