HUGHES APPEARS AS WALL STREET BOY
"The Hunch" starring Gareth Hughes, playing at the United Theater tonight and tomorrow, is a screen adaptation of a story by Percival Wilde that appeared in the Popular magazine. The story deals with the adventure of a young Wall Street broker who awakes one morning after a convivial party to find "Buy J H" inscribed on his shirt front.
"J H means Jerusalem steel and the broker has a hunch that it will make his fortune. He borrows money to buy. Then the stock slumps. His loan is called in. Unable to meet it and unwilling to give up his bunch he arranges to disappear for a time, leaving a hat and knife to indicate that he has been murdered. Starting for the country he is arrested as a suspicious character and held for his own murder.
The scenes of hilarious incidents that follow in the story seem made for screen use and the role of the young broker should show Mr. Hughes at his best.
On the same program will be Monte Banks in one of his best comedies "Brilliantine" the Bull Fighter." A laugh a second and then a few extra thrown in for good measure.

OFFICIAL MEXICAN RECOGNITION NEXT
By H. K. REYNOLDS
(I. N. S. Staff Correspondent)
WASHINGTON, Aug. 22.—The next step in the Mexican situation is the official announcement that the United States recognizes the Obregon government.
President Coolidge is not prepared to authorize this announcement until he receives from Secretary of State Hughes a formal report on the recent negotiations at Mexico City, but he has already been informally advised that there is nothing to prevent the resumption of diplomatic relations broken off in May, 1920.

RECORD BREAKING NEW PRODUCTION
"Last week was the biggest for new production week that the Signal Hill has had in over a year and should be a particular appeal to the people of Anaheim who have become interested thru Pacific Royalties Syndicate. The fact that nine wells brought in with an aggregate flow of 34,000 barrels per day would naturally make a person who might be interested in the field feel pretty good," said Mr. J. Murphy in an interview this morning.
As the conversation progressed a couple of other things were mentioned which will be read with more than passing interest by the number of people in Anaheim who have become clients of the Pacific Royalties Syndicate since they have opened their branch office at 225 East Center street.
"First—Mr. Moss, who has charge of the drilling operations on the California Cooperative No. 2 well No. 1 an offset to the Hawkeye which made its owners rich with a gush of 6000 barrels a day and was among the big ones to be brought in last week, says he expects to bring in the California Cooperative fully as big if not bigger than that Hawkeye. He is down 4200 feet and hopes within a short time to be shooting oil all over the derrick.
Second—The Pacific Royalties Syndicate holds several royalty interests in this well and that, no doubt, is a very good reason for being so optimistic. Of course, the Syndicate has royalties in different parts of the proven area, bought at different times. They are continuing the buying of these Royalties just as fast, as in their judgment, the location and conditions look right. They keep their interests well scattered in order to play the game of the law of averages—that is how they happened to hold interests in the California Cooperative No. 2.
Mr. Murphy, who is the local sales agent for the Pacific Royalties Syndicate, expresses much satisfaction with the number of well known peo-
BELIEVE BANDITS KILLED NEWSBOY
LOS ANGELES, Aug. 22.—Believing the four men who yesterday held up and robbed the Belvedere Gardens State Bank of $20,000 amid a hail of bullets, are the same quartet who last night engaged in a downtown shooting affray with a police officer, killing Frank Sullivan, a newsboy, Chief of Police August Vollmer today ordered his "shock troops," consisting of his best officers, into a gigantic man-hunt.
The search for the four men who exchanged shots with Patrolman Applidorn when he attempted to question them as suspected auto thieves, centered about the hospitals as it is believed Applidorn wounded at least one and perhaps two of the suspects.
Edward Rusia, identified by Applidorn as one of the four men, was captured shortly after the shooting while hiding in a nearby garage Witnesses of the Belvedere bank holdup were to be given a chance today to see if they could positively identify Rusia as one of the bank bandits.
People to purchase lots in the Mennes tract this week are J. T. Campbell and son of La Habra; and A. M. Rogers of Orange. Mr. Campbell and Mr. Lucas expect to build on their lots in the near future.
Mr. and Mrs. Hammerson and sons Frank and Lionel spent Thursday at Long Beach.
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Woodfin and Mrs. W. R. Braaly motored to Fullerton on Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Warren and family have returned from their mountain home and will spend several weeks at home and will then go back to the mountains until time for school to start.
Mrs. Lawrence Tilton and Mrs. Robert Hunt spent Saturday in Los Angeles.
Mr. and Mrs. Dodd and daughters Mina Lee and Nina attended the Rialto theater on Friday evening.
Mrs. A. Nelson and daughters Margaret and Buelah are spending a vacation at Laguna Beach.
Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Rock and children left on Monday for a vacation part of which will be spent with relatives at San Diego.
Mrs. M. B. Shaw of San Bernardino is the guest of her daughter, Mrs. O. R. Dano.
Mrs. William Henshaw of Los Angeles is spending several days with her daughter Mrs. E. P. Mann.
National grants of land in aid of education were first made in this country in 1803.
First stove was made in Alsace in 1490.
Mr. Murphy, who is the local sales agent for the Pacific Royalties Syndicate, expresses much satisfaction with the number of well known people who have bought beneficial interests during the last two weeks and the increasing number who are becoming interested in wanting to know about the proposition. Many calls are made daily and filed for the little booklets the Syndicate has had printed which tells all about Royalties and Royalty Interests. These booklets go into detail and after reading one thru it is easily understood why Royalties are the most satisfactory oil investment one can make. It tells you of the protection you are given and why they are known as the "Gold Bonds" of the oil industry.
