Miscellaneous INTEREST CENTERED IN NEW AMBASSADOR By H. K. Reynolds I. N. S. Staff Correspondent WASHINGTON, Aug. 17—With the speedy resumption of political relations between the United States and Mexico assured by the signing of the Warren-Rox accord, interest in the Mexican situation centers about the selection of a new American ambassador to Mexico City. This problem has already been considered by President Coolidge and Secretary Hughes and announcement of the appointment is expected at the same time as recognition is formally extended. Among those prominently mentioned for the post are: Charles B. Warren of Michigan, former U. S. ambassador to Japan, who with John Barton Payne carried on the successful negotiations leading to the present harmonious relations between the United States and Mexico. John Hays Hammond, chairman of the United States Coal Commission, who is familiar with Mexico's economic and political development. James G. McNary of Texas, who was a staunch friend of the late president and who would now be comptroller of the currency except for the refusal of the senate to confirm his nomination. He is a banker. R. B. Creager, Republican national committeeman in Texas, who was formerly a neighbor of President Harding at Marion, Ohio, and who was strongly urged for the Mexico City post two years ago. Henry Lane Wilson, who served as ambassador to Mexico during the Wilson administration and who has had a brilliant career in the American diplomatic service. George T. Summerlin, who is now the American charge d'affaires at CHARGE CONSPIRACY TO WRECK BANK RALEIGH, N. C., Aug. 17—Charged with conspiracy to wreck the Commercial National Bank of Wilmington, N. C., which closed its doors eight months ago, W. B. Cooper, lieutenant governor of North Carolina, today was one of four men arrested as instigators of the alleged plot. Cooper will be held under bonds of $10,000 for a hearing of the case in the United States district court. Along with the lieutenant governor, Thomas E. Cooper, president of the defunct bank and prominent candidate for Democratic national committeeman, also was arrested on a conspiracy warrant. Horace Cooper, son of the lieutenant governor, and Clyde L. Lassiter were two others named. YORBA LINDA YORBA LINDA, Aug. 17. (Spl.) Miss Jetsamyn West was honored with a dinner party at the Griffith Milhouse home in Whittier on Tuesday evening. After the dinner a number of young women, all relatives of Miss West, dropped in for the evening and surprised here by giving her a beautiful set of Irish linen. The many subscribers to the Orange County Plain Dealer were delightfully surprised this week, by finding their paper at their front door. This is a splendid improvement, especially to the county subscribers, to have a news daily, delivered to the home. Many people have expressed their appreciation over this improvement in service. Dr. Cochran has purchased the lot south of the postoffice and will improve same. He plans to do some leveling, put in a lawn and shrubs. NEW LOST—Fox Terrier black spot on right name Bessie. Henry Lane Wilson, who served as ambassador to Mexico during the Wilson administration and who has had a brilliant career in the American diplomatic service. George T. Summerlin, who is now the American charge d'affairs at Mexico City. Altho it had been expected the announcement of the recognition of the Obregon government by President Coolidge would be made before the end of the week it now appears that no action will be taken by the state department until after the American commissioners reach here early next week with the complete records of their negotiations. While President Coolidge is trying to decide who he will name as ambassador to Mexico City, Secretary Hughes is looking about for the commissioners who will represent the United States on the two claims commissions established by the Warren-Roa agreement. These commissions will adjudicate the claims of American and Mexican citizens incident to the Mexican revolutions and the Perishing and Funston expeditions into Mexico. Starbuck's Rods. This was followed by "At Dawning" which was beautiful as sung by Mr. Griffith Milhouse of Whittier. Esther Milhouse, who acted as accompanist, then played the wedding march and the bride entered on the arm of her father. Her gown was very beautiful, being fashioned of white chiffon with cascades of beautiful Spanish lace. The veil was caught with a wreath of orange blossoms and she carried a shower bouquet that hung to the hem of her gown. The matron of honor was Mrs. Bernice Nixon of Whittler, the mald of honor Miss Florence Ford of Fullerton and the bridesmaids were the Misses Carmen West and Sallie Kinsman. Those were all dressed in the postel: shades and each carried sweet peas to correspond with their gown. Mr. Myron West acted as best man and the ushers were the Messrs Wayne Armstrong, Paul Jackson and Fred Groats. Two daimny flower girls were Rose Ellen Harrison and Bulah Milhouse and the little ring bearer was Master Loren Nixon. After the ceremony a reception was held and refreshments daintily served. The bride cut the cake and then slipped away to change to her traveling suit. The young couple are spending a 3-week honeymoon at Yosemite. The bride with her parents has resided here a number of years and has the love and respect of a large circle of friends. The romance began when both Mr. and Mrs. McPherson were students at Whittier College. Mr. McPherson has a ranch at Hemet and it is quite possible that the young couple will make their home there. They have the sincere wishes of the community for their future happiness.
