BRUNSWICKS AGAIN PROVE STAMINA M. V. Stewart, rancher near Cypress is convinced that Brunswick cord tires are unequalled for a long trip. According to Clyde Williams of Daniels and Williams, Northern Orange County distributors, Stewart has tried many makes of tire. Stewart is just back from a trip of 4600 miles via Salt Lake City, Yellowstone National Park, Portland, Seattle and back by the coast route. He encountered all kinds of rough roads on the journey, traveling at times for miles over sharp stones, unimproved highways, etc. His Olda coupe was fully equipped with $2 x 4 Brunswicks and carried four passengers, including Mrs. Stewart and the two daughters, and a quantity of camping luggage. J. P. Johnson, rural letter carrier, who has just purchased a new car, insisted upon having it equipped with Brunswicks all around. Johnson encounters the worst dirt roads about Anaheim and must be prepared for hard usage. Goodyear Tire Cut Second in Few Weeks If anybody has the impression that C. J. Nenno's cut of 20 per cent on Goodyear tires is that fraction off the old prices he's mistaken. It's off the new prices, and brings the Goodyear range down to almost unheard of low levels, and 'it's' a flat reduction on all sizes. In fact, Goodyear tires at Nenno's now are selling at prices in many cases below those of some of the cheaper grades of casing. PHILCO BATTERY PRICES SLASHED Walter & Shelby has just received word from the Philadelphia Storage Battery Co. that substantial reduction has been made on all batteries manufactured by them. The factory announced that tremendous increases in sales and economical distribution have made these lower prices possible. Despite the radical price reduction, the same high quality will be maintained in all Philco batteries. “This price reduction came most unexpectedly,” said the firm, “and is sure to prove happy news to the multitude of car owners in Southern California, many of whom will need new batteries at this time of the year, when summer heat commences to take its toll of the old. “The price of Philco batteries is now the lowest ever offered for standard batteries, which gives motorists the highest type of standard battery for approximately the same cost as especially constructed price batteries. “The three different types of Philco batteries, gives motorists a choice of a one, one and a half or two year guarantee battery, depending on the number of months battery service he wishes to buy. If the battery delivers more months of service than the guarantee calls for, which is the rule, the motorist is that many months to the good on battery service. Battery’s Life?—Two Months to Ten Years One of the most frequent queries the service station man receives—and a lot of them are propounded to him every day by perplexed motorists—“How long will a battery last?” “To ask such a question is just like asking the doctor how long you will live,” states A. Bevillard, local Willard dealer. “He would tell you that if you ate simply, got plenty of sleep and exercise and did a lot of other things, you might live to a ripe old age, barring accidents and provided there was nothing organically wrong. In other words, the specialist on a human body, the expert whose job it is to make and keep people healthy could not answer your question. “It is not surprising that even battery specialists are unable to tell accurately how long a battery will last. It is a fact that sometimes an exceptional battery will function for as long as ten years, but the battery that lasts for only a couple of months is likewise an exception. “But by this I do not mean that a motorist has no guide to battery values. Quite the contrary. As a matter of fact there are four things that determine battery life. They are use, time, care and the quality of the battery itself. “The first three factors are dependent on the individual user of the battery. “The driver who starts and stops frequently, with short runs in between, or uses his lights to excess, is not recharging his battery nearly” 27 Miles Per Hour On Cal-Detroit Trip P. C. Walrath, who is connected with the Skinner Automobile Devices Company, Detroit, left his home at Sacramento, Calif., at 9:15 A.M. on June 27 in a Series 10 Franklin Touring, accompanied by one passenger and much baggage, and covered the 2731 miles between there and Detroit, Mich., in 100 hours and 15 minutes driving time, an average of better than 27 miles per hour for the entire distance, which included some going of the roughest sort. Between Carson City, Nev., and Salt Lake City, Utah, 800 miles of the worst sort of roads were encountered; through Iowa, particularly, the mud was extremely bad. Gasoline average for the entire distance was a fraction over 20 miles per gallon. On the entire trip, Mr. Walrath replaced one spark plug and had five punctures. For the eight days on the road, Mr. Walrath did all the driving, averaging 342 miles per day. Take your voice out to the ball game and let it exercise in the big open. so fast as he is discharging it. “Time will wear on a battery just as it will eventually destroy even mountains. The way to get the most from a battery is to use it day in and day out. “小 need be said about care of a battery. That the maximum use from a battery may be obtained by giving it proper care is a well-known fact.” RADIO ANNOUNCEMENT Robt V. Jensen Announces the New Radio Service Reflex Set.
