Miscellaneous EX-COUNTESS IN ROLE OF TEACHER AUROHA, Ill., Aug. 3.—Nobility has invaded Aurora in the person of a Russian countess, and her employer has quite a time of it keeping the young woman hidden from the throngs of curiously inclined, who have endeavored to chat with her since her arrival. Not so long ago the Countess Irene was one of the leaders of the younger set in Moscow and at one time visited with the Czarina of Russia. But now she is in America and asserts that she likes the United States very much. "We got her at an employment agency," Mrs. Copley explained, after she had succeeded in inducing the shy, pretty governess to lay aside her book which she had been reading. "All we desired was a good French teacher for our boys. The gentleman in charge of the agency told us he had many Russian women who wanted to come to this country and that several of them were well versed in French. We simply engaged Madomoiselle Irene DeKeller, arranged for her passports and engaged ourselves with other matters." Mrs. Copley said the Countess had escaped the "Red" revolution in her own country. She was visiting in London when the trouble started and when she returned home she went to a section where the Bolshevists rarely came. "I'm sure she's through being a countess forever. She is anxious to learn how things are done in America, and she is a capable governor," her employer declared. And Countess Irene just smiled and said quietly "Out, out, monster." NEW METHODS TO GET WORK EMPLOYED LONDON, Aug. 3.—The problem of the unemployed ex-soldiers is an old one in England, so blizare methods have to be adopted to attract attention to their plight. The Veterans' Association is attracting attention through advertisements, which are oftentimes pitiful. The tragic story of one is told in the following: WANTED—A Claw-hammer. "Joined up in 1914 from English public school—six war medals. Ragged and penniless, found yesterday picking food from the gutter. "After all," he said "there's a kind of fellow feeling between a piece of bread and a hungry man." "Suit me admirably. No home of my own now," he replied when he was offered a job as housebreaker. "Might possibly rebuild my own house." "There's a job as housebreaker waiting for him, if he turns up with a claw hammer." "The price of that hammer of hope is ten shillings. Who'll find it for him? POSSE HUNTS APE; FOOTPRINTS CLUB SISTERSVILLE, W. Va., Aug. 3. -Reports received here declare a mysterious ape is roaming the wilds of Tyler County, in the region of Muddy Creek. G. C. Farrel and John Clarke employees of the Manufacturers' Light and Heat Company, witnessed a sight that made their hair stand on end—a mother ape and seven cubs. They declare their story to be gospel truth. The men were rigging up a balling machine at a well close to a thicket they said. Suddenly their attention was attracted to the edge of the Mrs. And Countess Irene just smiled and said whistly "Out, out, monsieur." ONE OF "WEAKER SEX" SHOWS WAY HORNELL, N. Y., Aug. 3.—Hornell contractors have solved a labor problem, provided they can find a few more women like Mrs. Mina Guild, who has been unloading clinders from freight cars here, working beside two stalwart men and forcing them to extend themselves to keep up with her. "It's nothing she said modestly. I am good and strong. Winter before last I cut 75 cords of wood and did the same thing last winter. I saw a chance for a little easy money so I took this job. The sun has been burning hot yet Mrs. Guild has worked in the earn bareheaded and apparently unmindful of the heat. She is a woman about 30 years of age, and the possessor of a figure that would make Venus envious. She eats whatever she wants and has no worries about getting fat, she smiling admitted. Her husband has worked beside her, and every night showed unmistakable signs of fatigue. She, on the contrary, seemed fresh as ever. FORMER PREMIER LEAVES HUNGARY BUDAPEST, Aug. 3.—It is not often that a European who has been Prime minister of his own country goes to the new world to live. Count Karolyl, former Premier of Hungary, however, has turned his back on his native land and has taken his family to Canada, where he expects to make his future home. To friends in his native land he confided: "I go to Canada with great joy, so that my children may be educated in English lines." Argentina has nearly quadrupled but 24-inch guage on which steam locomotives handle farmers' products more economically than wagons or motor trucks. That, she contends, was more than she could bear, and she brought the divorce action. SISTERSVILLE, W. Va., Aug. 3.—Reports received here declare a mysteriousape is roaming the wilds of Tyler County, in the region of Muddy Creek. G. C. Farrel and John Clarke employees of the Manufacturing Light and Heat Company, witnessed a sight that made their hair stand on end—a motherape and seven cuba. They declare their story to be gospel truth. The men were rigging up a balling machaet at a well close to a thickot they said. Suddenly their attention was attracted to the edge of the precipice by frenzied screams. They looked and saw a motherape, with six little ones clinging to her side while in her mouth was another, dangling over the edge of the cliff. Dropping their tools, the men ran. They ran until they reached their foreman (M. C. Sherwool). With J. Henderson as leader, a pose was formed and went in search of the apen. No trace of the animals would be found, but peculiar footprints on top of the cliff were in evidence. Latest reports from the posse is that theape is still ahead of the burrowers. Theape was seen on the farm of Abendegue Weekley, one of the earliest settlers of the country. GO TO AUBURN FROM EVERYWHERE AUBURN, Aug. 3.—Pine street, a new thorofare recently opened up here, numbers among its residents a man from Hell and a woman from Paradise, thereby clinching its right to being known as the most cosmopolitan avenue in the city. C. F. Ritchter, Auburn's jovial postmaster, is the gentleman from Hell. He was born in Hell Norway, and came to the United States as a young man. Mrs. H. E. Calver who lives across the street from Richter, came here from Paradise, Butte County. Jute mills of India have been so closing of many of those long established in Scotland.
