LIONS’ CLUB HEAR HARMONY QUARTET
It was a light entertainment that the Lions enjoyed today at their weekly luncheon in the Elks’ clubhouse. There was no speaker and the feature of the gathering was singing by the Harmony Quartet, composed of Chet Robinson, Ray Wallace, Hiker Batterman and Elmer Ensing of Orange.
Cal Gibson was chairman of the program, President Bob White presided and Homer E. Eddy was secretary pro tem. The committee, headed by "Chick" Pearson, appointed for the purpose, was instructed to have a signboard erected on the public highway similar to those of the Klwans and Rotary Clubs.
It was voted to enter in the baseball league to be started next September.
There was an excellent attendance.
SOVIET GUARDS ARE DROPPED IN ALASKA
NOME, Alaska, July 27.—Soviet guards stationed on the schooner Iskum of Tacoma, when it was captured in Siberia several weeks ago, were turned over to the authorities here today by the crew of the vessel, who had overpowered the guards and placed them in irons.
The little trading vessel, soviet authorities charged, had violated Russian trading laws. After her capture the men who manned the Iskum regained control of her at Anadyr, Siberia, and proceeded to Nome.
