ROTARY HEARS OF
JUNIOR REPUBLIC
The wonderful work of transforming wayward boys carried on at the California Junior Republic was told in interesting fashion today by Supt. Wright, head of the school to Rotarians at the weekly luncheon in the Elks' clubhouse.
The institution has approximately 250 acres of land between Chino and Pomona, where boys are taught various trades, farming etc. There is a splendid machine shop, printing establishment and other buildings, besides some blooded cattle. The speaker told of several instances of boys whose habits of life had been changed and who later had become prominent citizens.
Ray Elliott, athletic instructor at the high school, was responsible for getting him here, but G. T. Ingram, manager of the California Theater, was in charge of the program. Ingram brought along Arch B. Fritz, his organist, who gave some piano selections.
The club has now held 42 consecutive 100 per cent meetings, declared to be the world's record. The Mission, Texas, club held 76 meetings, but only 42 consecutive ones.
HUNDREDS CONTINUE FOREST FIRE FIGHT
KANE, Pa., July 23—Hundreds of men today were continuing their battle against forest fires between Mount Alton and Kushequa in Kinzuia bridge district.
It appeared certain thousands of acres of woodland would be burned over despite efforts of the fighters.
The timber in this district is used mainly for paper and chemical making. The woods will be ruined for wild game.
Fires which raged near Kane are now under control. Other blazes in almost every direction from here may spread to large dimensions unless rain falls during the day as there are not men enough to fight the fire.
