ENGLISH WOMEN SPURN HIS KISS
(By International News Service)
LONDON, July 13.—The famous fifteenth century Dutch man of letters and divine Erasmus and his views on Englishwomen and their (then) habit of kissing were unsuccessfully eulogized by Sir Philip Sassoon, reputed to be the richest bachelor in England, when he opened a fete at Aldington, Kent where the Dutchman was minister for a short time.
Sir Philip quoted Erasmus as writing to his friend Faustus and saying: "Englishwomen kiss you when you arrive, kiss you when you go, and kiss you at opportunity intervals."
He then added that if the women present would revert to that custom he for one would vote the fete a huge success.
But apparently modern English-women are not so lavish with their kisses as their ancestresses. Or perhaps Sir Philip Sassoon is not so lucky woman as was Erasmus. In any case, not a single woman present took When in need advertise in the Plain Dealer.

BLUNDER CORRECTED When packing a trunk it is better to place garments flat, using the full length and breadth of the trunk and folding each article as few times as possible. This method not only lessens the number of wrinkles in each garment, but allows also for closer packing, and prevents the contents shaking about so much when the trunk is handled.
