WANT ORANGE CO. TO RAISE THIRD OF FUND
There is no doubt that Riverside and San Bernardino counties' boards of supervisors will vote $5000 each toward the $15,000 fund which it is proposed that the three counties raise for water spreading the coming season, according to J. J. Dwyer, member of the Tri-County Reforestation Committee and one of the leading water conservationists of the county.
Petition to Orange Co.'s board for the appropriation already has been made.
Dwyer pointed out that the two southern counties would benefit even more than Orange by the water spreading.
The successive subterranean basins first of San Bernardino, and then of Riverside and Orange county are filled in turn as the flood waters seep thru the upper strata of soil.
Reports of private ranchers continue to show that, in spite of the smaller rainfall, the level of wells still is above that of a year ago. While the city wells do not make quite as good a showing. It is pointed out that the demands on the part of consumers are much larger because of increased population.

GERMAN GIRLS
COME HERE TO WORK
NEW YORK, July 13.—Read this to the wife:
German servant girls have begun their long-overdue pilgrimage to the United States. One day recently ten passed through the gates at Ellis Island, arrivals on the Royal Mall liner Oran! More are on their way.
The girls, all in blooming health, announced $40 a month would be the wages asked.
And for that, they said, they were willing to cook, sweep, scrub, mind the children, be respectful to the head of the house; had no objection to late suppers, sought but one afternoon a week off duty—and would do the washing and ironing.
Not one of the group is a movie fan.
None has gentlemen friends in the United States—yet.
We only got $2 a week and no days off at home in Harthausen," the spokeswoman of the group said.
"For $40 a month we'll do everything."
