YALE SUPERHUMAN IS CALIFORNIA YOUTH (By International News Service) NEW HAVEN, July 8.—California has given Yale another "superhuman." this time in the intellectual class in Francis Otto Matthiessen, whose home was in Pasadena. Yale senior students voted Matthiessen the man in their class most to be admired, and most likely to succeed. Then the faculty, pickled him out as the senior who has done the most for Yale "by inspiring in his classmates an admiration and love for the best traditions of that high scholarship to the service of which our universities are dedicated." To make the honor immediately substantial, Matthiessen was awarded $500 in cash, as a result of a prize offered by Mrs. Alpheus Henry Snow, of Washington, D.C., in memory of her husband, who was a member of the Yale class of 1879.
