WILLARD TICKLED BY GIBBONS' FIGHT
(I. N. S. Staff Correspondent)
YONKERS, N. Y., July 5.—Meet the happiest man in the world—Jess Willard, Kansan.
"And Tommy Gibbons stuck fifteen rounds!"
The sour-taced man of the prairies, Jess the uncommunicative—actually sang this morning.
The former world's champion, in training here for his meeting July 12 with Luis Angel) Firpo, bull of the pampas, scheduled for Boyle's historic 30 acres over in Jersey, was back from three miles on the road long before the first commuter missed the first train.
"Let me tell the world something," Willard advised. "The fighter doesn't live who can lay off over a long stretch and not pay the price.
"Jim Jeffries and I are living examples, and Jack Dempsey will be the next."
Whether anybody else believes it or not, Willard thinks he will knock the crown from the head of the king of fist some day soon.
"Strength saved Dempsey," said Willard, who is now under the direction of Jack Skelly ve eran planner of battles. "Let Dempsey try to turn either me or Firpo around in a clinch—there'll be a new champion."
Willard today weighs 243. He'll be down to 238 ringside—the lightest he has ever weighed—he predicts.
Confidence has been restored to the mountain of muscle. He believes he can defeat any man n the world. But Willard is not making the mistake of Toledo. He is training. The road takes him in the morning. Then an hour in the gym. Fifteen rounds a day with sparring partners is his regular dish. He's going at top speed.

WOMEN'S CLUB AND LIONS PLAY FRIDAY
Everybody is talking about the great baseball game tomorrow afternoon at the City Park between the Business and Professional Women's Club and the Lions Club. All who saw the girls several weeks ago know that the Lions are against a heavy and swift team.
Billy Knott, tall twister for the Lions' Club, will put some pretty twists on the ball. Dorcas Jacques will be the girls' pitcher.
The game will be called at 5 o'clock and the battle will start with the first ball.
All those who miss this game are going to regret it. A small admission will be charged in order to secure money to buy equipment for the playground. Peanuts, candy and skimo pies will be on sale, so it is advisable to bring along extra nickles.

BRAUN AUTOFUMER automatically delivers into the tent an accurately measured dosage of hot, moist vapor (BRAUN GAS). The heat raises the temperature in the tent and stimulates the scale to greater activity in absorbing the poison.
By force and direction of discharge, the AUTOFUMER thoroughly saturates the atmosphere with the poisonous BRAUN GAS before tent leakage can be a factor in reducing killing concentration.
Hazards to the operator are reduced to the vanishing point. Waste is eliminated as there is no transferring of liquid from one container to another, and the full measured dose is delivered under the tent completely changed to gas.

INDOOR CHAMPIONS CONTEST TONIGHT
Preparations are being made to accommodate an especially large crowd at the Anaheim Y. M. C. A. this evening when the White Temple and Schneider's Market indoor baseball teams clash in the first of the final games for the city championship and possession of the silver loving cup donated by the Y. M. C. A. Ten teams were entered by different organizations at the beginning of the season and two leagues were formed. The White Temple team won every game played in its league, as did the Schneider's Market team in the second league. Now these two 1,000 per cent teams meet in a two out of three series to decide the real champion.
The game this evening is called for 7:30 and the second game of the series will take place tomorrow evening at the same time. The third game, if necessary, will be played Monday evening after the banquet which is to be given for all participants in the league games. This banquet will take place at the Y. M. C. A. at 6:30 o'clock and is to be served by the ladies of the White Temple. A second game will be played this evening between the Home Oil队 and the team from the Salem Evangelical church.
EXPECT TOUGH GAME WITH VENTURA SUN.
Captain Buster Callan and Manager Pete Hax will attempt to put the same winning combination that swamped Pasadena last Sunday in the field next Sunday against Ventura. Neither believes in tampering with the lineup as long as it is toping the others.
Ventura, rated as one of the strongest teams in the Elk State League, is expected to give Anaheim a real tussle. The scheduled Elks' League game with Santa Barbara last Sunday was not played, but this outing across the waters our tennis stars are still leading the field in ship between themselves.
Hunter is the surprise of the tournament. He is playing far better than was expected of him. Johnson disposed of the greatest foreign player when he defeated B. I. C. Norton.
Poor Molla flivvered again. She is persistent, she just keeps on trying. The French star, Suzanne Lenglen apparently is in a class by herself. She has won her way to the final easily. She has not been forced to extend herself in any of the contests and she is far better than any of her nearest rivals.
That's that and the glorious 4th of 1923 is a thing of the past.
GENEROUS RESPONSE TO "DOLLAR" LETTERS
The public doubtless remembers the trust imposed when, a few weeks ago, hundreds of persons all over the county received letters each containing a dollar bill, with the request that the amount be covered with another dollar, or more, and returned to the Children's Orthopedic hospital committee, in Los Angeles, thus helping to raise a fund for operation on the great work of humanity.
An investigating inquiry to the committee secured the information that of the 430 letters sent to this district, $575 in response was received. That amount did not include the bills sent with the appeals.
The local guild of the hospital association feels very happy over the figures, and especially of the expressions of goodwill and confidence in the project.
3 KILLED, 2 HURT IN AUTO ACCIDENT
(By International News Service)
VANCOUVER, Wash., July 5.-Three men were instantly killed and two injured early today when an auto plunged off the highway near here.
The scheduled Elks' League game with Santa Barbara last Sunday was not played, but this outfit defeated Oxnard in an independent game yesterday.
The game Sunday will be played on the local high school field.
Ants native to Argentina are said to have been known to eat babies in their cradles.
Tagging All the Bases
The Yanks continue to rope the field, going west with a lead of 11½ games. They made five circuit sunshades in handing the Senators a double beating.
Grimm swatted the ball for a percentage of .600 and his hitting enabled the Pirates to annex both games from the Cardinals.
Pinch hitter Myatt's home run in the tenth gave the Indians the morning game over the Tigers, but Detroit knocked out a hollow victory in the afternoon.
Altho Ken Williams knocked out his 12th homer it availed naut, for the Brown went down to defeat twice before the White Sox.
ATTEMPT TO REPEAL GEORGIA'S DRY ACT
ATLANTA, Ga., July 5—An effort to New York's repeal of the state prohibition enforcement law was heard in the Georgia House of Representatives today when Representative Craig Arnold introduced a bill recommending a repeal of the Georgia liquor restrictions.
His request that the bill be referred to the committee of the whole was defeated and the measure was sent to the committee on temperance.
