PORTABLE RADIO SET INNOVATION A portable radio set, one that you can take out into the woods, hundreds of miles from home, and still keep in touch with the best entertainment of the day! You just string your aerial over a couple of tree tops and all is ready. The Kennedy portable receiver is something really new in radiography, says A. Devillard of the Anaheim Ignition Depot. Towers of the outdoors will appreciate the new Kennedy portable handy and compact—only 16"x17½" x7". Weights 17 pounds, compatible with batteries and all accessories. When a dry cell tube is used, the set is entirely self-contained, space being provided in the cabinet for "A" and "B" dry batteries and phones. When near your automobile, you can connect to the storage battery and use six-volt tubes if you prefer. Erecting an antenna is simple enough—about 100 feet of wire from tree to tree, or even one end of a wire weighted and thrown over a limb will give excellent results. REO AUTO BUSSES REPLACE TROLLEYS The latest tempt to use automobile busses on rails in the East occurred on Decoration Day when two Reo railway cars were placed in commission at Long Beach, L. I. Last fall, when various trolley systems throughout Long Island were being discussed as ancient (dilapidated and costly to operate, A. W. Mayer, president of the Reo Jamaica Sales Co., conceived the idea that gasoline busses, if used on rails, would meet every requirement of economical and efficient operation. At that time, according to Mr. Mayer, the city of Long Beach was contemplating the purchase of trolley cars to run on the tracks being laid in their city, but the idea was abandoned and the Long Beach Railway Co. ordered six Rea railway coaches, two of which are now being operated. Commenting on this new development in railway transportation, Mr. Mayer stated that: RILEY WRITES OF VISIT THRU EAST Harry D. Riley, who represented local Rotarians at the recently closed international meeting at St. Louis, writes that he is at present studying the fabrication of Studebakers at the South Bend and other factors. Amore other things, his letter contains a running account of the trip East, as witness: "We arrived at El Paso the day after leaving Los Angeles, and were met by Rotarians, who took us over their 'drive beautiful,' as they call it. In El Paso, they are going to raise $100,000, with which to advertise their climate. The latter was very hot that day, and as we passed several large and commodious funeral establishments I asked my host if those were monuments to the climate. Partner on, several new undertaking emporiums were being constructed. We had a lot of fun pointing them out, and only our size prevented being dumped into the road." Another scenic drive was at Kansas City, the home of the finest laid out park system in the whole country. They sure have a wonderful park and boulevard system, and are rightfully proud of it. A realtor with real vision has gotten control of 25,000 acres, and on it will build the most exclusive restricted subdivision in the world, he says. This man is a friend of E. G. Lewis, our Palos Verdes subdivider. St. Louis followed Kansas City closely in the merit of its parks. One covering 2500 acres, is world renowned—Forest Highlands. In their beautiful arranged Community Theater they gave us a staging of the comic opera, 'Prince of Pilsen,' done by local talent, and finely accomplished, too. Municipal bath houses scattered about St. Louis are a boon to the poorer people and transients. Saw ball game between St. Louis-Chicago and St. Louis-Cincinnati; both good. Only one complaint about St. Louis, the hotel rates were out of all reason. President Harding addressed us Thursday, made a fine impression and got a hand from the boys.
