SALT WATER WELL IS DUG BY FACTORY
The lengths to which the Maxwell Motor Corporation has gone, to make certain that its automobiles are built in the most efficient way, are well illustrated in a recent announcement received by Turton & Lumsdon, local Maxwell dealer, stating that a salt water well has just been drilled at the Detroit plants of the company and is now in use. The water from it assures improved heat-treating of the necessary materials entering Maxwell care.
"For all intensive heat-treating purposes tests have proved that salt water is more desirable than fresh," says H. L. Turton. "This fact, as well as the need for cold water that would remain at a constant temperature, prompted the corporation to drill the well, after advice from geologists that salt water underlies a considerable section about Detroit.
"Natural salt water, of the exact solution and temperature wanted was struck at 851 feet below the surface. Its constant temperature is 55 degrees Fahrenheit, the correct coolness for heat heat-treating."
The well's estimated yearly capacity is 31,200,000 gallons per day.

The last symbol of frontier life passes into history. Progress discards the picturesque old stagecoach for the modern motor car. A famous Indian route in British Columbia—the Cariboo Trail—first used by white men in the 50s, is now traveled tri-weekly by Studebaker Big-Six Touring cars.
Carrying passengers, baggage and express, these cars start from Ashcroft—a point about 200 miles north-east of Vancouver—and run straight north to Quesnel. This is the route of the Cariboo Trail over steep, towering range of the Cariboo Trail.
It is a difficult road always been almost bad weather. The Asheroft to Queanel trip by stage and one-half days, waltance is now covered a single day at a cenger of only twenty-fare charged by th

DANGEROUS, BUT LESS OIL BEST, CLAIM
Many visitors at the Auto show learned perhaps for the first time, of the variety of oils and greases put out by the manufactures of Oldag. Gredag is one of their products. The companies grades of oils are made for a variety of cars, big and little and range from heavy to light.
On the principle that without oil there can be no heat, provided a film of oil exists for lubrication, the company declares that two quarts of oil are better than four or five, if the owner keeps tabs on his supply and doesn't let it get too low.
MAXWELL CHASSIS WAS SHOW FEATURE
R. G. Adams of Fullerton was one of the joint exhibitors with Anaheim dealers at the Auto show. He cooperates with Turton and Lumsdon in putting on the capable showing of Maxwell and Chalmers cars. A cut down Maxwell chassis, which did not appear during the first few days of the show, was a remarkable feature of the combined exhibit. The wonderful smoothness of the Maxwell mechanism never was better illustrated.

The trip by stagecoach was long and drudgerous and required three and one-half days, whereas the distance is now covered by motor car in a single day at a cost to the passenger of only twenty-five per cent of the fare charged by the stagecoach.
Studebaker Special-Sixes are also used as motor stages between Ashcroft, Williams Lake and Cedar Creek, E.C. It was at the latter point that a gold strike was made last year. The run to Cedar Creek is 150 miles east from Ashcroft, over a very treacherous road—hardly a road at all. Rogardless of the very difficult travel conditions—sharp inclines, dangerous descents from the mountains—these cars have proved dependable and faithful to their task.
